Michelle Obama, Sasha To Vacation In Spain

Michelle Obama will travel to Spain next week for a private, mother-daughter trip with "longtime family friends," according to the White House. The Associated Press reports that Sasha will be joining her. No word on Malia's whereabouts, but the president revealed in an interview last week that his oldest daughter is going to sleepaway camp for a month.

The White House said that although this is closed press, Mrs. Obama will pay an official visit to Their Majesties King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia of Spain at their invitation.

Will there be a Michelle Obama vs. Princess Letizia fashion face-off? Stay tuned.

This is a great adventure for a mother and daughter. I hope they have an excellent vacation!

I would love to have had the funds to do such travels with my daughter.

But it was ok for Bush to travel back and forth to Texas -- for extended vacations? He spent more than a third of his presidency vacationing in Texas, Maine, and Camp David -- and did not put in full hours when he WAS at the White House.

You didn't complain about the many millions of taxpayers' dollars going to waste so that Bush could hang out with his buddies, did you?

Aww, Niasia (beautiful name), I'm sure Malia will get a 'mother/daughter' trip too. I always loved Girl Scout Camp at Diamond Lake, OR - I wasn't a Scout, my Gram paid extra - but, I *did* earn badges - one for swimming across the lake!

She'll have a ball.

Knowing this family, and I am just surmising, they had a family discussion and Malia probably chose the sleep away camp, knowing there would be other opportunities and going to camp is something a girl her age would enjoy a lot. It's nice for siblings to do their own things, too, sometimes. It's great for the child who gets to have the time alone with a parent, too, and Malia will have her time. These parents spend much time with their children; they are a real Unit. And Granny??? She's getting her time, too.
