Isn't it obvious that these things are coming from the hoards of illegals living in filth? Notice the correlation between illegals packing the slums and the increase in the bedbug population? You might also notice how all that happens to coincide with the increase in national debt, unemployment rate, foreclosure rate, H1N1, etc. This isn't rocket science, people...

I think part of the problem is also that many people have heard that washing in cold water is just as good as washing in warm water. With people cutting costs and saving every penny, if your sheets are not regularly washed in hot water, the pests are allowed to propagate.

They are truly sent straight from Hell to torment us!

Having defeated these beasts 6 months ago seemingly once and for all, I can give some advice if you are afflicted. There's a lot of nonsense out there:

Poisons are temporary. Most don't effectively kill bedbugs and hurt your pets, plus sleeping in a room full of poisons isn't great for your health.
1. Clean and vacuum EVERYTHING in the room. Every crack and crevice, wall outlets, take the bed apart and vacuum it. No clutter laying on the floor. Wash everything on and around the bed in HOT water and dry it for an hour on high.

2. Get a portable steamer, something strong. Steam the mattress thoroughly (or trash it), don't shake the mattress or move it. When done, put a bedbug cover on both the mattress and boxspring. Steam everything else in the room, all the cracks and crevices. Steam is the most effective thing at killing them, the are actually pretty fragile physically but are resistant to most poisons, including "Off" and similar stuff.

3. Get a tube of clear silicone (like caulk) and seal the baseboards, around outlets, windows, try to make the room airtight is the mentality.

4.If your bed has legs, put them in bowls of water or some liquid.
Once you do all that, prepare to steam the bed and pillows NIGHTLY for about 3 months. If you get lazy, they'll be back! They come out between 3-4AM like clockwork.

DDT for use indoors.

Get rid of your softside luggage, get the old hardside Samsonite bags; softside can pick up bugs on the carousels.

Get a silk sleepsack for use in hotel beds. Throw the comforter in the corner.

Bring back DDT for limited use(i.e. not fogging neighborhoods like we did in the 50's).

Problem solved, for a while anyway.

Decades ago in Boston when I had in infestation of bedbugs, I was told they are carried by pigeons.I never heard such comments on the news. A shred of truth or urban legend?

They can hitch a ride on anything, and any animal. They don't need to be in a bed, and it only takes two to reproduce thousands. They can also go for a year without feeding. Worst part is you feel the bite, but almost never will see them. It's completely maddening and I mean that in the most serious way, you can develop some real mental health issues dealing with them.
