Chicago Violence: 9 Shot At South Side CTA Bus Terminal

Nine people were shot Monday night when a gunman began spraying bullets at a South Side CTA turnaround.
The shooting happened about 9 p.m. near South Western Avenue and 79th Street, where the No. 49 Western Avenue bus runs, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Police told the Chicago Tribune that five of the nine victims were known gang members--including four Gangster Disciples and one Vice Lord.
The Tribune reports:
Shot were eight males--ranging in age from 16 to 31--and a woman, 20, police said. The male victims sustained wounds mainly to their extremities, although one suffered a neck wound and another was shot in the thigh. The woman was shot in the ankle.
All were hospitalized and expected to survive their injuries.
"...I don't want people to think there's any kind of threat against people waiting for the bus or anything like that," Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis told the Tribune. "It might have been a matter of opportunity that the offenders in this case perhaps saw some people that they were looking for and that it just happened that this was the time that they chose to execute their attack."
The incident occurred just blocks from St. Rita High School, 7740 S. Western Ave.
The victims were being questioned at area hospitals. No arrests had been made as of 5 a.m.
