Glenn Beck's 'Restoring Honor' Rally Claims To Be Non-Political But Will Headline Palin And NRA (PHOTO)

Although Glenn Beck has told attendees that his "Restoring Honor" rally will be a "nonpolitical rally," it will feature speeches by Sarah Palin and Ted Nugent and is partially sponsored by the National Rifle Association.

The latest edition of the NRA's magazine First Freedom features a full-page front cover ad for the rally. The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence has responded, blasting the conservative commentator for his claims the rally would be apolitical:

This is the same Sarah Palin, who has purposely stoked fears and resentment among gun-owners by wrongly accusing President Obama of wanting to ban guns; who disregards the 70 percent of Americans who want restrictions on semi-automatic assault weapons; and rejects the medical community's assertion that gun violence in America is a national health problem.

This is the same Wayne LaPierre, who insists that "...it's the guys with the guns make the rules." Not Jefferson's 'We, the people,' the American voters, or their representatives. No, "the guys with the guns" -- a statement that bears eerie similarity to the one John Wilkes Booth authored in a letter on April 14, 1865, the morning before he assassinated Lincoln, that "Might makes right."

...Most jarring is the sad irony of all of these people at the podium, with their supporters spread across our National Mall, celebrating, in part, their worship of guns, while invoking, quite blatantly, the legacies of two great Americans whose magnificent lives were cruelly cut short by bullets.

August 28 marks the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King's famous "I Have a Dream Speech," which was delivered at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial. Initially, Beck said that the rally would be an effort to "pick up Martin Luther King's dream that has been distorted." However, he later backtracked on the air, saying "It was not my intention to select 8-28 because of the Martin Luther King tie. It is the day he made that speech. I had no idea until I announced it and I walked off stage." (Glenn Beck has compared himself to King in the past.) He plans to award "badges of merit" to people who have lived their lives "in accordance with just universal principles."

The rally will also feature Gary Sinise, Marcus Luttrell, and David Barton.

UPDATE: Gary Sinise's spokesperson tells us he will not be in attendance.

"He declined taking part quite a while ago so we are not sure why he was ever announced as attending," said spokesperson Staci Wolfe.

I find the name of his rally insulting. Restore honor? Sorry Glenda and Baracuda, but most of us are already proud of our country and how we have progressed. Most of us do not want to set our country back. As you stand on the spot where our beloved MLK stood and spoke of his dream for our nation and our future, your words of taking the country back in time before him will have no meaning or significance.

Progressed into what, a debt ridden nation that’s being financed by a communist country? Let’s go back in time to where we had no meaning or significance…like when we produced 50% of the worlds good and everyone got off their backside and went to work rather than waiting for their government handout. The honor that most needs to be restored is Glenn Beck's. He is not just ignorant; he purposely deceives his audience daily. How much honor does a blatant hypocrite have? The Glenn Beck Review has extensive documentation of his hypocrisy, from freedom of speech, to propaganda, to use of the N-word (Nazi) and foremost to his declarations of honesty.

Beck is leading his lemmings over the cliff while they sign his praises daily on his web site.

Actually, he reveals the actual facts- behind civil rights, slavery and current issues. He does regularily ask that he be corrected if he's wrong. I've only started watching his show recently and with hesitation but have come to really enjoy the show. Pick any of the topics he speaks about on any one of his shows and try to find your own facts against his.

The thing I don't get is that if these speakers routinely make stupid and hateful comments, why isn't the Brady Campaign welcoming the opportunity for more people to hear those stupid and hateful comments.

Fo example, I would be quite sad if Helmke's or Henigan's blog ever went away. I print out their ridiculous comments and post them around the office every day. I invite people to come here and see your comments all the time.

I would never try to silence the Brady Bunch because it provides me with loads of free entertainment.
