Chantal Biya's Eccentric Style (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 07/29/2010 8:21 am   Updated: 05/25/2011 4:50 pm

Cameroon's First Lady Chantal Biya has undeniably eclectic taste. She's never said no to bold color, lace shirts and shiny skirts. Although she is reportedly a fan of Chanel and Dior, it's not necessarily her clothing that's the most eye-catching--it's her auburn 'do, her most famous hairstyle being the banane. Take a look at some of Mrs. Biya's fabulous ensembles and tell us which ones you love and which you'd leave behind.

I have thick naturally curly red hair. In the 80s I used to do some pretty crazy stuff with my hair but, this woman puts me to shame!

I have a great deal of admiration for the First Lady of Cameroon.

She is a woman whose style is regularly examined, criticized and sometimes panned, yet she never wavers in her taste. That is a sign of total confidence, something many will never experience.

To look at the dress of another and proclaim tackiness, oddity, faux pas, or even merely unattractive is to pronounce one's own insecurity. We are not forced to gaze upon others, we do it because our attention has been caught.

Ms. Biya seems to be quite adept at attracting attention. If that is her aim, she dresses quite successfully.

The outfits weren't as bad as I thought! It's the HAIR! Slicked back in a bun, she could have pulled it of!

She is awesome !! How would any of us girls fair sitting next to Carla ??? No , I wouldn't have the chops to dress as flamboyantly as she does. She's comfortable with her self and that is the sexiest thing you can put on !!! You go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love looking at clothes, but I couldn't get past picture #9. What horrendous taste this woman has.

I give her an A for effort. She's trying to be stylish and she scores high for originality. She is the place where African tribal meets European designer. Not sure about the hair but it probably insures employment for a multitude of hairdressers. Love the Pope hat. She's kinda cool.

The First Lady of Camaroon looks pretty gloomy in pic #15 she must be attending a wake or funeral?

She brought a smile to my face in her Pope themed hat. I think she's absolutely fabulous. She obviously don't care what others think about her style. She wears it well and that's all she cares about. Good on her!

She looks like her own person, and obviously loves the way her clothing and hair look- good for her! I think she looks best in brighter colored ensembles- I didn't like her in black so much. But I also don't know a lot about the fashions or traditional styles of Camaroon, so I assume some of her colorfulness is based on her culture as well. It's a nice change from some of the boring business suits some first ladies wear!

She's quite stylish, in her own way. I can respect that. The hair scares me a bit, but you won't lose her in a crowd, that's for damn sure.
