PBS Ombudsman Defends Palin Joke: 'Fair Game'

The PBS ombudsman is defending the network's airing of a Sarah Palin joke during the news program "Need to Know."

Following Palin's widely-mocked use of the non-word "refudiate," comedian and HuffPost blogger Andy Borowitz joked about "Palinese" on last week's episode of the program.

"Several people wrote to say they took offense," PBS ombudsman Michael Getler wrote.

In Borowitz's segment, seen below, he joked that should Palin become president in 2012, she will "cancel the agreement between nouns and verbs" and change the nation's official language to "Palinese, a language known only to her.

"Even her husband Todd doesn't speak it, although to be fair, no one has ever heard him speak."

Getler defended the joke, writing that "Palin's new word was all over the media and fair game."
