Bennet Loans Himself $300,000, Responds To Romanoff Attacks With Primary Around The Corner

Colorado Senator Michael Bennet is redoubling his efforts following the release of a poll showing that his once-commanding lead has evaporated.

On Sunday, the Denver Post and 9News released a poll showing Bennet, who once held a 17-point lead over former House Speaker Andrew Romanoff in the Democratic primaries, was losing to Romanoff by 3 points.

On Monday, the Bennet campaign announced that the candidate was loaning his campaign $300,000 in what the AP described as an effort "to show that Bennet is willing to match Romanoff."

Last week Romanoff sold his house in order to fund TV ads for his campaign, which has lagged behind Bennet's campaign in fundraising.

Bennet also released an ad on Monday that responded to a Romanoff attack ad from last week. Bennet's new ad cites newspaper editorials calling Romanoff's attacks, which accused Bennet of "looting" a billion dollars from a cinema chain, "sleazy," "misleading" and "below the belt."
