Spirit Airlines Starts $45 Carry-On Fee

Spirit Airlines Starts CHARGING For Carry-Ons

What is travel coming to? On Sunday, Spirit Airlines started charging $45 for a carry-on bag, according to USA Today.

Passengers across the country criticized the move calling it "ridiculous." Yet the airline defended its new fee.

Spirit CEO Ben Baldanza talked about the move on Sunday, saying there was "an understandable number of complaints." Spirit claims that they are lowering fares to off-set the carry-on fee (so why do it?).

"I think what we'll find is over the next weeks and months as this program evolves, and more and more people understand it, that people will see that the trade-off is a really good one," Baldanza said on Sunday. "Not everyone will think that, and those people may choose to fly someone else, but they'll likely pay more for their total travel than they will on Spirit.
