Maybe I'm just not seeing the big picture here, but I would think it would be a good thing for the head of the RNC (or any political party) to meet with representatives of foreign governments to lay the groundwork for cooperation should that party come into power in the far, far distant future.

What I find troubling is the amaturish, ham-handed way in which this overture was done.

I guess much like Palin he can see the world from his porch, Some one should tell him that not all ambassadors like strip clubs or Poll diplomacy.

Maybe he's going over to the "other side". Wait, the Republican Chair is the other side!

He wants to use these meeting later to show that he has just as much foreign policy experience as Sarah Palin. Hey! They could be running mates!

Perhaps Steele is only trying to line up participants for his next bondage-themed get-together:

Steele knows come January he is out of the republican tea party, he won't be welcomed anymore, so maybe he is trying for some job in Iran.

Quick question, did the intern send out every e-mail with Steele's name misspelled?

What part of "foreign policy is set by the sitting Administration" doesn't the GOP understand? Now it appears they are trying to usurp the power of the President given to him in the Constitution (Art.II Sec.2) by attempting to induce other countries to get involved in the upcoming election-something I am sure none of them would have any interest in doing if they thought it would become public.

Of course other countries have an interest in how the election comes out, but meddling in domestic affairs is a good way for them to find themselves on the wrong end of the argument with our Secretary of State, Ms. Clinton and I doubt seriously any of them would take that risk.

"The Republican National Committee is trying to set up meetings between Chairman Michael Steele and foreign ambassadors to the United States."

Why? He doesn't represent the United States of America and cannot speak for the United States of America. Is the RNC trying to set up these meetings because they see him as the ambassador for the Confederate States of America. If so, they should FIRST return all of our nation's resources (money, land, etc.) and then formally secede from the Union

LOL. I bet the GOP is hoping Steele will be offered a job in another country, Farfaraway. Shows how desperate the GOP is to get rid of Michael Steele.

If Steele doesn't get the hint pretty soon, the RNC may resort to the SNL "Landshark" trick:
