Pakistan Flood PHOTOS: Dramatic Images From Flooding

First Posted: 08/04/10 05:13 PM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:15 PM ET

Days of heavy monsoonal rains have caused floods devastating northwestern Pakistan.

The disaster has claimed more than 1,100 lives and it has been dubbed the worst flooding in living memory for Pakistan.

The flooding has overwhelmed the Pakistani government's capacity to provide aid, Bloomberg reports.

In May, the government warned of flood damage for that part of Pakistan, stating 50,000 people were at risk after a landslide created a lake.

There are many ways you can help the victims of the Pakistan flood, and HuffPost Impact has rounded those up here.

Pakistan flood photos are providing context to the tragedy. View dramatic images from the flood and its impact below.

Pakistan Flood Relief Marred by Corruption
Pakistan authorities have come under intense criticism from people in affected areas. Some local politicians accuse the government of deliberately constructing barriers to divert the water into unprotected areas to save their own land.

The photos capture the degree of massive destruction and human suffering caused by the floods along with the overwhelming feeling of helplessness in the Pakistan people. If there was ever an opportunity for the US to provide immediate humanitarian help to show we care for the Pakistanis and their plight is right now. Katrina has provided endless evidence of what happens when help is in a state of bureaucratic incompetency and a government whose response is dazed and confused at best. We know better and need to respond immediately and effectively; there are no excuses.

God Bless these people.
08:09 PM on 08/19/2010
Does it look to you like a god is "blessing these people?" How insulting!
11:48 AM on 08/12/2010
So sorry for all these suffering people in Pakistan. Hope that they can rebuild their lives. May God help them...
02:38 PM on 08/12/2010
Why didn't God prevent them for getting into this mess in the first place?
He didn't lift a finger to prevent these floods. Why do you think God will help them now?
08:08 PM on 08/19/2010
Exactly. Thank you for pointing that out.

The Year 2010 started with the big bang of "natural catastrophes and Haiti was its epicenter." Those catastrophes are expending around the globe in a similar model like the big bang. News about unusual earthquake, Tsunami, flood, tornadoes and other inclement weather conditions are pulsating at an alarming frequency since January 2010. Is it Natural phenomenon? Is it the making of the modern Sorcerer's Apprentices in their quest for global control?

Great pictures. I didn't know how beautiful Pakistan was, and the pictures may be heartbreaking to some, but the people don't look heartbroken.

AS THEY SAY IN SHOW BIZ... YOU AIN’T SEEN NOTHING YET!

Global warming has been sharply increasing since the early 1970’s when third world countries started moving up the industrial ladder at a quicker pace. This GLOBAL WARMING will continue and increase over the next thousand years or so.

IT’S THE 7 BILLION PEOPLE making horrendous demands on the diminishing resources of this small planet. People have no idea what a rise of 1 or 2 degrees does to change the dynamics of all interrelated systems on this earth. This is not irreversible at this point as many scientist say, the best we can hope for is to slow it down, but it will not be stopped.

PEOPLE ARE BREEDING THEMSELVES INTO EXTINCTION

Didn't you hear?....Global Warming was the biggest search for power SCAM in the world! Global warming doesn't exists so don't worry. Until countries start shooting off nuclear weapons should we worry.

So sad to see so many people suffer. May Allah help them.
08:11 PM on 08/19/2010
If "allah" is omnipotent then he had the power to prevent the problem in the first place. Therefore, it wouldn't be wise to wait around for "allah" to help.

Allah give us each other to call upon. He give us common sense. Being proactive when it comes to a greener lifestyle to reduce the effects of climate change is a start for you of little faith.

you missed the point that allah gives us free will.
free will meant that USA didn't sign the Kyoto agreement
global warming has created this situation
and partly or wholy human activiity has created global warming

PS: Rating the how heartbreaking each picture is on a scale of 1 to 10 seems just a bit weird to me. I can't exactly express what bothers me about it, but it just seems somehow wrong.
03:21 AM on 08/05/2010
I agree.

I wonder, are the dones and spy satellites are being used to map the areas most in need of assistance and advise the rescue effort? If all this technology can be used to track down and kill terrorists, surely it can also be used to find people in need of help and determine the best route for getting that help to them?

the army corps of engineers could have been working on these vulnerable flooding zones. I guess making war is more cost effective though.
