The Hill:

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) scolded Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) on the Senate floor Thursday for allegedly mocking him while he delivered a solemn speech on Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan.

The dust-up came seconds after McConnell delivered a speech on Kagan's nomination shortly before the Senate voted to confirm her to the high court.

I was born in KY. I've lived and worked in KY. Ky is one of many states who should have only one senator. A lot of low-population states are getting a hell of a lot more back in federal spending than they pay in, but they vote in KY for the likes of McConnell, Bunning, and maybe Rand Paul. Rural states , dependent on agriculture subsidies and military bases, are destroying America. Let's see KY go one year  Read More...

If McConnel sought an apology ..... might that mean that republicans
might stop lying on the Senate Floor?

I mean, isn't far worse to lie on the Senate Floor, purposely block every
bill that comes forward (Many of which they agreed on just a few years ago)
Just to destroy America enough to gain a few seats in the House and Senate.

I find a strange look by Franken quite innocent compared to the actions of the
Lunatic Right.

Franken stole the election. He should should not be a member of congress.

Yet without prompting from members of his caucus or rationalization, Senator Franken sought out McConnell to apologize. Of course McConnell hid out in his office, so Senator Franken sent a personal note of apology.

Compare that to "you lie" Wilson's direct assault on the Head of State.

Perhaps the Republicans should start treating the Senate
like a legislative body and Al and the rest of us will
stop making faces.

Time someone put McConnell in his place!

It's a little late, but enjoyed. It's even later for McConnell to think he deserves to be treated with even a modicum of respect.

To borrow a famous line, "There you go again"

Next time you feel the President has been disrespected or that opponents go too far, remember this moment also. It is attitudes that flow from the leaders all the way down to the various posters here, that set in motion the disrespect for our leadership, Democrat, Republican, or ?. From movies about a fictional Presidential assassination, Movies that mock the President, to those accuse the President of being a liar, etc.
All that can be determined with certainty, is that the future Presidents and Congressmen/women will be treated with ever declining respect in the future no matter the party.
Al Franken cannot be condemned for his actions, as it is akin to the Aesop Fable that states, "What did you expect, it is in my nature." One can only condemn Reid for setting Franken in his seat to preside over the Senate. What did he expect from such a buffoon.

The Republican caucus is more like 'Animal House.' They aren't witty enough to be SNL.

Of course the Senate isn't SNL. SNL stopped being funny around 1980, while the Senate is a total laugh riot every time a Republican says something.

No, the Senate isn't Saturday Night Live, it's a "Comedy of Republican Errors".
05:03 PM on 08/06/2010
Of course McConnell doesn't mention the fake b'day cards the RNC put out on Obama's birthday - they show no respect to the President, act out and curse in the Senate - but want respect themselves? If the Republicans spent half as much time working on behalf of their constituents as they do defending each other -- they'd get alot more done. They couldn't be bothered with a jobs bill - but managed to pass a bankruptcy law letting gun owners keep their guns. . . McConnell is wrong - Congress is a joke!

Give them a dose of their own 'respect,' show a poster of Boehner with a bone through his nose in a fright wig with a mustache that's about an inch wide.

McConnell is upset because Franken gave him the lack of respect he deserves?

I don't remember but maybe somebody can remind me about Mitch's level of outrage at Rep. Joe WIlson and his lack of respect for the President of the United States.
