Bruce Springsteen Donates $50,000 To Help Feed The Hungry And Unemployed

Bruce Springsteen is best known as 'The Boss' to many of his long-time fans around the world, but for 1,500 South Carolina families, he has come to mean much more than that. The pop star donated $50,000, which helped distribute 75,000 pounds of groceries to residents of Fort Mill, S.C. this Tuesday.

The South Carolina town has an unemployment rate of 14 percent and many families are struggling to put food on the table.

Local charity, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina, will distribute food in the area using five mobile pantries.

Springsteen's charitable donation was matched by the Springs Close Foundation President Angie McCrae, who will be 85 this November. The $100,000 combined donation will help meet many locals' needs for food, as well as shelter and medical care.
