Ground Zero Mosque

nydailynews.com:

Mayor Bloomberg said he doesn't know where the planners of the proposed mosque and Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero will get the money to build -- and he doesn't care.

"People say, well, you know, 'Do they have the money? Can they raise the money? Where does it come from?' " the mayor said Friday on his WOR-AM radio show with John Gambling.

Since we're asking them to open up their books, I wish to see the books of the Catholic Church. I'd like to see where all the money comes from to finance hiding their colleagues who rape children. I definitely want to see the books of the Mormons. Add to that the Hasidic Jews. I'd love to see a comparison of financial records and see who would win the "dirty money" contest.

Mayor Bloomberg in stating that ""We would betray our values and play into our enemies' hands if we were to treat Muslims differently than anyone else." reminds us of what is best in America, while the fear mongers and bigots remind us of what is worse.

Earlier, two posters got into a debate on whether or not the Cordoba Initiative showed signs of radicalism. The Imam has been mentioned before as someone hated by OBL for his moderate stance but I think the actions of the mosque speak for themselves.

It sounds like they are radical seeing that they claim to be about healing and bettering the image of Islam in New York and the West in general.

But they start by pissing off half of New York, two thirds of America and outraging more 9/11 victims families than winning supporters of the survivors.

Add up that it's a Muslim custom to build Mosques after great victories and massacres of non-Muslims.

Finally, consider that they named it the Cordoba Initiative, taking it's namesake from the seat of Muslim power in Spain and itself built over a demolished Christian Church.

The Occupation and Reconquista of Spain is such a touchy subject for Spaniards that it's still illegal for Muslims to say Muslim prayers in the Church and Museum it reverted to--even though Muslims, including the King of Morocco keep trying to pray there anyway.

Everyone from Cat Stevens to Osame Bin Laden have talked about the lost Al Andalus.

The symbolism of a Mosque that close to Ground Zero would be a huge victory for Islam, even bigger than the original Cordoba.

I wonder what the Byzantines or the Sassanids would have thought of intolerance toward Islam.
10:38 PM on 08/08/2010
It appears that Bloomberg is ready to convert to Islam..........he might as well.
11:04 PM on 08/08/2010
He's not ready to convert, but he has accepted Dhimmi status.

I think he's looking to cut a deal like the Spanish Jews did with the conquering Muslims when they invaded Spain. Can I blame him? He seems to see the writing on the wall, when a nation like America is so weak that it will allow these folks to spit right in the face of the nation--it sounds like there's a new overlord in town.

It's mind boggling the way how muslims have been granted "super rights"..I have yet to see even the slightest effort on their part to be sensitive to others.

Some in this discussion have taken to regaling us with a recitation of bad things done in the name of Islam in the last 1500 years, from the occupatkion of Spain to the Ottoman Turks. But, do you really want to go there? Shall we go into what was done in the name of Christianity during the same historical periods? She we assume that all Christians of the 21st Century are the same as their 11th, 12th and 13th Century counterparts? Shall we speak of what Christians did to both Jews and Muslims after they resumed control of Spain from the Moors? Some American Evangelicals have in the last several years been fostering a climate of demonization against gays and lesbians in Uganda, to the point that gays and lesbians may now be executed simply for being gay or lesbian -- shall we we indict all Christians for their actions? How is it just to hold today's Muslim's accountable for everything that happened 500-1500 years ago, when we give Christians a pass? I mean, if it is valid to indict modern day Muslims for everything that Muslims 1,000 years ago did, why should not modern Christians be similarly indicted?

It's would seem hypocritical that a politician would have a cavalier attitude about background financing when they are quite expedient in returning monies from individuals or groups that might embarrass their campaigns.

Are we going to look into where the money comes from to build Christian churches in OK City, since a Radical Christian terrorist killed hundreds with the OK City bombing?
12:38 AM on 08/08/2010
You should always know where money are coming from and where they are going to. Unless you are a lib/progressive and do not have any.

He doesn't care? That is the problem. We have a false sense of security in the US. While we want to trust and believe paper trails and reality cautions us. There are certain things in society that we must question and not turn a blind eye to. It is for the safety of our nation and future generations. If we turn a blind eye to this then we should forget about security as a whole including airport security. There is a reason people are scanned (though it doesn't help). Look at Israel. For the safety of its people they have taken steps to protect. We as Americans must wake up and stop with the holy then though and realize there are people out there wanting to do us harm. If I am to accept a global warming then accept the fact of hate in religion from Islam to Christianity.

So if its terrorist money, you would rather the terrorist find another use for it rather than spending it on a Mosque in NYC, where it will hire American construction workers and create American jobs. I can just imagine the discussions going on at terrorist headquarters. "They won't let us use that money to invest in that U.S. Mosque. Let's find another use for it then. How about a terrorist attack? You know the saying, use it or lose it."

"If I am to accept a global warming then accept the fact of hate in religion from Islam to Christianity". I am confused as to how you’re acceptance of Global Climate Change is reason why the rest of us must accept your premise of hate in religion. Personally i dont see any let down in America’s security? The Republicans have kept reminding us of how safe things have ben around here since they let 9/11 happen on their watch.

The sheep go themselves worked up in a tizzy when Rush Limbaugh wanted a stake in an NFL team.

Guess it's ok is radical islamists erect a crib in NYC though.

These people are a piece of work.

This is really sad, He doesnt care where the money comes from, He doesnt care that the ground work will start on 9-11-2011. He doesnt care about the victims of the great massacre. He just care's about getting that money. What a shame. We are not sheep , we are Hawks, Hawks see clearly, from great distances. they can see danger from far off. Most have served their country in far away lands and understand the danger of this tolerance. Sheep are people who run in a herd, follow people who speak in generalization, and they know no evil because their sheppard has always defended them. They have grown fat and lazy in the tall grass . and will see nor hear anything . until the old wolf , sneaks up gradually , ever so slowly hunkerd down, some times he may even wear sheeps clothing, But he just as deadly, and he gets them.

Building a mosque near Ground Zero is not a good idea if only because it gives Republican terrorists too juicy a target to bomb. New York does not need any more terrorism, foreign or domestic.

Whatever you say, as long as the project is abandoned or moved, I'm happy.
