NEW ORLEANS — BP PLC says it may in the future drill in the same Gulf of Mexico oil reservoir that blew its top and caused one of the world's worst spills.

Officials said Friday at a news briefing in New Orleans that the company hasn't closed the door to tapping the reservoir again.

Chief Operating Officer Doug Suttles says "there's lots of oil and gas here." He says "we're going to have to think about what to do with that at some point."

The company is plugging up the blown-out well with mud and cement. Officials have also been drilling two relief wells in a planned effort to plug the hole from the bottom.

BP says it will abandon the blown well and the relief wells but is leaving open the option of drilling nearby.

Any politician allowing them to drill here again, should be locked up and the key thrown away.

I really don't think it is a political matter......

They own the leases to the area and have rights to drill accordingly.
In order for this to be stopped it would be a matter for the Federal Courts to void a valid contract.

Since Congress can not perform a Bill of Attainer which singles out BP.... then if BP is to be banned then all oil companies will have to be banned as well.

I know... It Sux... but that is the LAW and we are a nation of LAWS.
last time I checked.

What BP can do with all that gas and oil is fuggedabotit, the pressure is too high.

Are we to believe that only certifiable idiots are allowed to run that company?

With the smiley blessing of Obama and the rest of our corrupt and gutless politicians in Washington.

According to an article in the New Orleans Times Picayune, the Ixtoc1 Blowout started an offshore oil field rush after it was contained. Read it here:http://www.nola.com/news/gulf-oil-spill/index.ssf/2010/07/1979s_ixtoc_oil_well_blowout_i.html . Of course the fishing grounds never recovered. I would say this will be a perfectly good picture of our future on the Gulf Coast. We just showed the world that we have more offshore oil that we ever believed. So we can control our own energy future and we don't need no stinking Middle Eastern oil. Sounds good, right? So the question is, when will we get another Deepwater Horizon?

Tell your legislators that you want BP to be banned from drilling in the US, that their present contracts should be canceled and BP must never be given another one. Tell them you are a voter and you will remember how they responded come next election. Then vote out any corporate tools who support allowing BP to continue to do their dirty business in the US.

Otherwise. it will be business as usual and BP and other's like them will continue their irresponsibility and criminal negligence - and we will continue to have to pay to clean up their ecocidal messes.

While were at it, lets let all criminals free to repeat their previous crimes. Sounds logical to me.....

BP is gonna be lucky if they are not completely ejected from American territorial waters.

Are they just incapable of learning anything at all? (BP, the government, anyone who has anything to do with this.) Seriously, there's a disorder called "no carryover of learning."

Ok, what does one have to do for people to realize it is not a wise thing to do? Put some of the hudreds of oiled-to-death sea turtles in front of the White House?

Who would allow BP to do drill again on the Gulf? Are these "officials" insane? Or only corrupt?

I'm not a big fan of eco-terrorism, but THAT IS TOO MUCH!

There should be no drilling in the deep waters of the BP oil gusher. The oil companies have proven they are not prepared to work safely in those depths and do not seem prepared for gushers at lesser depths. There should be a period of healing for the area without the likely hood of additional spillage. Regulations need re-examination and requirements increased for ocean drilling and that has not occurred yet. The jobs of millions and the health of the entire Gulf coast is at risk and no amount of oil money can make up for that. The lease fee for the Deepwater Horizon well was listed at $34 million. The cleanup and loss from the oil disaster ie estimated at $20 billion. You do the math= not worth it.

Why would BP be allowed to drill for this oil reserve and export it after the mess they have brought to New Orleans? Let and American Company, a mom and pop every one is talking about, drill and keep the oil here. Isn't it American oil? Suttles is a globalist, send him to China.

Suttles you are no better than Hayward and Dudley! This company deserves a bit of their own BAD Karma! BP is run by clowns obviously from Herr Svanberg down the line. BP should be kicked OUT of the uSA!

Could this be why BP has to keep tapping the reservoir? . . .
