Interesting enough story and a terrible title. Bond fought fictional bad guys Dahl spied on real rich Americans.

A book called "The Irregulars" already covered this territory. From that account, Dahl hardly struck me as a James Bond type. He attended Washington parties, became a regular at the house of a powerful newspaper man of the time, tried to encourage American intervention, and even worked his way into Eleanor Roosevelt. However, that's not really activities, while interesting, never really involved the action and adventure. In fact, he found life as a spy dull and couldn't wait to return home.

Thanks for pointing this out, trweste144. I come to this site for news, which usually means something, oh, you know, NEW. It's hard to believe that there's so little going on in the world of books that they're reduced to grubbing about in the garbage for yesterday's headlines.

Speaking of headlines, the ones on this site tend to be godawful as far as accuracy goes.
