Antoine Heard Charged In Death Of 5-Year-Old Boy: Brought Gun Into Home

Cousin Charged In Death Of 5-Year-Old Boy, Brought Gun Into Home

A 17-year-old boy was charged with one count of endangering a child causing death Thursday morning after the teen's 5-year-old nephew was accidentally killed with a weapon he brought into the home.

Antoine Heard allegedly turned himself in to police after it was learned that he brought a gun into a family member's home in the 700 block of South California Avenue--where 5-year-old Jonathan Jackson was found fatally shot Monday night.

Jonathan was playing with his twin brother when he was shot in the torso, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. The children reportedly found the gun in the home.

Relatives told the Chicago Tribune the boys were sent to bed before their first day of kindergarten when minutes later the sound of a gunshot rang from their bedroom.

Jonathan also suffered a graze wound to his hand, leading authorities to believe that his twin brother accidentally shot him while the two were playing.

Relatives told the Associated Press that the surviving twin is worried about his brother, wondering when the ambulance that took him away will bring him home.

"He don't understand the concept of life and death," said the child's great uncle. "He thinks Jonathan is in the hospital."

Heard is reportedly twins' uncle. He is due in court later Thursday, and has been charged as an adult.
