Glenn Beck: Gay Marriage NOT Threat To America (VIDEO)

First Posted: 8/12/10 09:20 AM ET Updated: 5/25/11 06:20 PM ET

Glenn Beck

Why doesn't Glenn Beck cover gay marriage? Because he doesn't believe it's a threat to the nation.

In a conversation with Bill O'Reilly on why he avoids culture war issues, Beck admitted that he doesn't think marriage should be a political issue.

"Honestly, I think we have bigger fish to fry," Beck said. "You can argue about abortion or gay marriage or whatever all you want. The country is burning down...I don't think marriage, that the government actually has anything to do with...that is a religious right."

"Do you believe gay marriage is a threat to the country in any way?" O'Reilly asked.

"A threat to the country? No, I don't," Beck said, laughing, adding mockingly, "Will the gays come and get us?"

Beck quoted Thomas Jefferson: "If it neither breaks my leg nor picks my pocket, what difference is it to me?"

WATCH:

Beck said that "as long as we're not going down the road of Canada, where it now is a problem for churches to have free speech," he doesn't care that much about the issue.

Beck said he cares most that churches "can still say, 'Hey, we oppose it, but we're not trying to kill anybody.'"

Did he mean 'religious right' or 'religious rite' ?

"It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." Does anyone bother to see what context this is written in? Thomas Jefferson's Notes on the State of Virginia 1781-82. He makes a comment about a law passed in Virginia in 1705 where punishment is laid out for those who deny the existence of a god or the trinity, promote Polytheism, or deny the Bible as divine.

"But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or NO god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

Yet we have bigger fish to fry, and we need to listen to our Founding Fathers, start praying and get back to church!

If gay marriage is a "religious" issue, then it is protected by the First Amendment.

Thank You, Glenn.

I'm speechless...I can't even stand the fact that the man "supports" gay marriage! That's how much I dislike this fool! My skin is crawlin'!

Funny to see that two old men talking about the way we lived before. Not much future to track. Bring out the old old men. That they made a big different in 1920-40. Their thoughts were new then. And if they had participated in the debates now, their thoughts would be new. Just not on the Fox network

Glen Beck is not defending gay marriage people. He simply said its not a threat to America which is why he chooses not to discuss it. Did everyone miss the part where he said its a religious right? How many religions do you know that approve of gay marriage? He still disproves of it but he is trying to dodge the question altogether. I can't believe how many gullible people on here read the headline and come to the conclusion that he is for gay marriage. No wonder this guy wins over so many people in this country who aren't willing to actually read further into something then a quick 2 second headline.

I never thought I would ever approve of anything said by Glenn Beck. This is the one time I am glad to say that I do. Our being allowed to marry legally harms no one and is no danger to this country.

Me too. ... I feel so dirty for agreeing with him on something though.

I won't go so far as to out Glen but I heard he and Ann Coulter have random pissing contests and he was seen leaving a pet store with Richard Gere. Also he asked if he could suck my mamba in a public restroom in '06. Maybe it was because I had a pack of Mamba candies hanging out of my pocket it was ackward to say the least.

I'm sure the Mormon cult will want to have a little talk with Mr. Beck about these comments.
