Alvin Greene Howls After Obscenity Indictment Raised In Interview

South Carolina Democrat Alvin Greene -- the come-from-nowhere U.S. Senate candidate taking on Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) -- reacted emotionally after the issue of his recent indictment was raised during an interview over the weekend.

In an exchange at his home with a reporter from North Carolina-based station WCNC, Greene signaled he doesn't plan to drop his campaign in the wake of the escalating legal controversy.

When pressed to elaborate on the indictment, the Senate hopeful ordered the reporter to "leave [his] property" and "go away."

WCNC reports:

When [the reporter] stopped briefly to talk with Greene's brother Jimmy, Alvin Greene began howling and wailing the words, "no" and "go."

Greene continued to wail loudly as Jimmy Greene said that his brother had never talked to him about what happened in the library of the University of South Carolina last fall.

The AP relays the background:

Authorities said he approached a student in a University of South Carolina computer lab, showed her obscene photos online, then talked about going to her dorm room.

A Richland County grand jury indicted Greene, 32, for disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity - a felony - as well as a misdemeanor charge of communicating obscene materials to a person without consent.

If convicted, Greene could face up to three years in prison for the misdemeanor or up to five years for the felony.

In the wake of Greene's indictment, South Carolina Democrats have revived calls for the unlikely Senate nominee to terminate his campaign.

"In June, I asked Mr. Greene to withdraw his candidacy because of the charges against him," said Caroly Folwer, Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party, in a statement. "It will be impossible for Mr. Greene to address his legal issues and run a statewide campaign. The indictment renews concerns that Mr. Greene cannot represent the values of the Democratic Party or South Carolina voters."

I really think that the new media is hyping the poll numbers in favor of the republicans. They tried that in the presidential election with their so called polls and did not factor in the minority vote at all. The republicans are the party of intolerance and the minorities will not forget that come 2012. They have ran off potential new minority republicans. They say they don't need the minority vote, but they hired a minority to run the nrc to help win elections. Steele is a con man.

I do not know why the democrats wine all the time. They need to get a message that people will listen to and repeat it over and over again until the people get it. They want to blame the president, but they are the ones who are leading in congress. They act as if they don't know how to lead when they get in power.

I believe jim demint can be beaten, that is why I believe the republicans helped get this guy in office. The democrats wine too much. They need to get someone to run as an independent. Stop the wining.

I believe every congressman and senator that have been in washington for years really need to loose reelection. You have the same players doing the same thing every year and the american people don't understand that it is their congressman and senator that is part of the problem

how in the worls did this guy get on the ticket? someone needs to really take a look at this guy. I believe that he was paid to run because noone in their right mind would consider running that his track record. something does not feel right about this guy. I believe greene is some type of impant to help jim demint escape being voted out of office.

OK. I'm a registered Republican. But I sympathize with Mr. Greene, because I agree with his stated opinions. I think that he is being demonized because he is not in step with the radical left members of the Democratic party in South Carolina. What ever happened to compromise in politics? That is the real problem in America today.

I don't know, but a book comes to mind, "To kill a Mocking Bird."
Why would Mr. Greene remotely jeopardize himself in this way.
This is about class and race warfare, shame on those that feed this dangerous monster, because, only the dumb ones get eaten alive.
Mr. Alvin Greene, certainly not a man without intelligence.
Good Luck Mr. Greene, may you win your seat successfully.

I bet Mr. Greene was busy working on his plan to solve America's problems.

Or he was eating dinner.

But neither is a good time to get asked about your pending obscenity charges.

CLASS WARFARE AND PARTY ANIMALS.

This is class warfare on the national stage. Greene isn't a member of 'the club' that gets these privileged positions - and neither party nor the ultimate decision-maker Wall Street want a renegade like him. As an insider, he's a risk to a very private and profitable endeavor masked as 'government.'

How many incumbents and challengers of both parties are facing indictments, criminal charges, or investigations for far more serious crimes? Are their own parties insisting they not run? Of course not. They're already members or 'acceptable candidates' for this very elite organization, Greene's a nobody.

Democrats aren't scared he won't be able to run - they're terrified he'll get elected and not be a 'team player,' or squander the power and money. Republicans will be justifiably humiliated if voters reject a 'known commodity' like DeMint in favor of a non-party affiliated candidate facing a relatively minor 'morals' charge.

Both parties should be hiding their hypocritical artificially-tanned faces in shame over this. All the incumbents and candidates of any party under indictment or investigation should lead by example and bow out, before anyone mentions Greene. Can Greene really be worse than a 'party' regular from either side of the aisle?

Class warfare, played out on the national stage by 'our leaders.'

Why are we allowing the mentally ill to run for office.. oh wait, never mind it's been going on for years.
12:45 PM on 08/18/2010
HURTS MY heart to know that I have voted into office a lot of mentally ill men and women...I feel so ashamed for that action...I will ask the question is there anyone with mental illness in the family or do you sir or madam take anything that can be prescribed to those with mental challenges

Gee, JFK, the icon of leftist Democrats was a notorious womanizer, as was his brother, Ted (whom alas "represented" me for many decades). And let's not forget Clinton. But because Mr. Greene does not subscribe to the liberal leftist viewpoint, these issues are "heinous".
