Food52's Best Plum Recipe Showdown: Vote For The Best Dish

For the past year, readers have been voting in weekly showdowns of reader-submitted recipes on a given theme. The winning recipes of each week will end up in Food52's upcoming cookbook, along with bios of the people who submitted them (Food52 explains the process in simple detail here).

Food52 and its co-founders Amanda Hesser and Merrill Stubbs have invited you, fun-loving HuffPost Food readers, to vote on the contest for week 8 (of the second year).

Week 8's showdown is for the best plum recipe.

Late Summer Plum Cake

Plums don't need much, just a pillowy batter to encase them, to catch their juices and a little sweetness to joust with their tartness. The batter for JSCooks's cake is scented with sour cream, vanilla and lemon. She uses lemon verbena leaves; we went for the substitute, lemon zest, and the cake did not suffer for it. Do go the extra mile and make whipped cream or buy some creme fraiche for serving. - A&M

Plum Avocado Summer Salad

A study in contrasts, this salad blew us away with its unexpected combination of flavors and textures. It's as if the marriage of tart-sweet plum and buttery avocado was always meant to be -- and the fragrant cilantro garlic dressing brings just the right amount of heat to the party, in the form of a dried chili. Don't skimp on the lemon or the salt, as both are crucial for balance. We think dicing the plums and avocados a little finer and using this to top a piece of fish would be another great use for Lena S.'s great dish! - A&M
