Angelina Jolie Urges Aid For Pakistan's Flood Victims

LONDON — Angelina Jolie says it's vital that people help Pakistan's flood victims and not surrender to compassion fatigue.

The floods have displaced 20 million people, but donations are below those for catastrophes like the Haitian earthquake or the Asian tsunami.

Jolie said she understood that "it is getting hard for people – they see Haiti, they see these other events ... and they get exhausted by the time another big one rolls around."

But she said Pakistanis face "mass death, mass displacement, and this situation is going to get worse."

Jolie has visited Haiti, Iraq and other countries as a U.N. goodwill ambassador.

The star says she might visit Pakistan once "the cameras go away."

Jolie spoke Monday at the London premiere of her spy thriller "Salt."

Operation USA, www.opusa.org, is preparing a major Pakistan flood relief effort. The group was active after the devastating earthquake which left 3 million homeless in just two provinces. This flood covers an area larger than NY State and all of New England..affecting 20 million people...that's why Angelina felt compelled to speak out.

It's really tacky for someone with her wealth to ask other people to donate. She could give up 99% of her money and still live very comfortably.

Not as much as she could. Like I said, asking citizens of a country that has 10% unemployment to donate is tacky. She could give away 10K a week for the next few decades and she probably wouldn't notice.

Why aren't the Muslim nations (with Ramadan going on) giving aide to Pakistan. Right now its the Americans giving the most aide. Shouldn't India be doing more? They could get alot of these refugees, What about Saudi Arabia? Iran?

Two things:

1. India isn't a Muslim nation.

2. Why would India do more? Last time (during the 2005 earthquakes in Pakistan), India donated tons of aid. What did that get them from Pakistan in return? The Mumbai Terrorist Attacks.

plenty of people donating have no religious affiliation so according to your doctrine they should only donate to other people who have no religious affiliation

see this is where we part. i look at the person and see the person and their qualities and ambitions and then way down on the list is their religious beliefs. GET THAT? BELIEF, NOT KNOW.
so do not drag religion into this as right now or actually any other time. If you look at what could be causing this massive flooding is the USA who will not sign the kyoto agreement. Oh, hang on. The reason USA won't sign is because they think china and INDIA should be signing as well.
