Fiorina: Obama's Comments On Mosque 'Extremely Unhelpful'

First Posted: 10/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Fiorina Mosque

Los Angeles Times:

Republican Senate nominee Carly Fiorina took a harder line Tuesday on the controversial plans to build a mosque several blocks from ground zero in New York City, suggesting that proponents of the mosque should back off their plans and find somewhere else in deference to families who lost relatives and friends in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

When asked about her views about the location of the mosque Sunday during a campaign visit to Los Angeles, Fiorina said it was an "intensely personal and local issue" and that "we ought to leave it up to the community of New York to work this through."

There are no words to describe how powerfully I wish there were a betting window at Huffpost - if there were, my fortune would have been made long ago.

Some things are so predictable the phases of the moon seem random in comparison. This is one of those things - kinda reminds me of a movie in biology class where just before a cell splits, the DNA splits into two and pulls apart - the instant this phony issue blew up, you knew EXACTLY where it was going and who would say what - and sure enough, every player has said exactly what I would've bet heavily on - and Failorina is no exception.

Now - in a betting environment - when things are expected to have a certain outcome (like this matter) one has to beat the spread to make a buck - but even so - I would've comfortably bet a thousand dollars to collect the ten-spot I knew Crawly would make for me...

Since she attempting (and hopefully fails) to be elected Senator from California, Carly Fiornia should stay focus on issues affecting the state of California. Increasing federal funding to public schools, public transportation, trade imbalance between China and US, unfair trade practices by Chinese, stagnating state's economy, the vulnerability of Californian water supply.

Conservative voters take comfort in knowing the pointless distraction they care so passionately about is also important to the candidates who pander to them...

Seriously California? This moron is still within 10% of becoming a US Senator?

Fienstein is one thing, she's practically a Republican already, but you would actually give Boxers' seat to this Palin wannabe?

Pathetic

Do you knowingly ever vote for a dimwit? Of course not - because you're not a dimwit. Well - the dimwits are people too - and they tend to vote for candidates who are either dimwits themselves - or pander to dimwits. Crawly Failorina fits either bill - depending on just how dim one's wits actually are...

I thought we agreed a few hundred years ago that you can come here and bring whatever sky God you want with you? Or have Our Founding Fathers reconvened?

I will do this much however. I'll give you Fiorina if you don't give us Whitman. I can live with that. I won't like it, but I can deal.

It's astounding to me how many people who aspire to public office have no idea what the Constitution means. If people wanted to put up a Christian church near the Oklahoma bombing site, no one would bat an eye. But because this is Islam we're talking about, it's suddenly anathema. This building is NOT at Ground Zero, first of all. It's blocks away. This whole argument is just so people can have a convenient bogeyman to support their racist fears of the "other."

Condemning all of Islam for the actions of a few is wrong. That's the lesson that should be learned here, and it's really a shame President Obama didn't come out more forcefully about this. Yet another reason he has disappointed me as president. People like Fiorina and Whitman are simply stoking fear to gain political points, and he should have called them out on it.

Leaving it to the community to decide is an excellent idea. That said, the last time I checked the project had already passed muster with local officials. While Carly's defenders are checking on that tidbit, they might want to take a look at Ted Olson's recent comments regarding the project for some intellectually honest insights into what the Constitution and basic civility require.

I'll start listening to Carly when she has a concrete plan to bring jobs to Cali...
Oh wait! When she was head of HP she OUTSOURCED 15-30,000 jobs OUT of California

(Wish she was the exception in the GOP, but...)
