First-Ever Plus-Size-Only Runway Show During New York Fashion Week Coming This Fall

First Posted: 08/19/2010 11:58 am Updated: 05/25/2011 5:25 pm

OneStopPlus.com is set to stage the first-ever plus-size-only runway show during New York Fall Fashion Week. Although the event won't be held in conjunction with IMG Fashion Week, it will take place right next door at The Atrium in Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall on September 15, 2010. Brands to be shown include Avenue, Jessica London, Women Within, Ellos and La Redoute. Eighteen different models will hit the runway, among them Lizzie Miller and Tocarra Jones. Emme will host the red carpet.

VP of Design of OneStopPlus.com Zahir Babvani said in a press release, "This show is a collaborative effort to provide the extraordinary community of plus-size American women with the uncompromising style that they have always deserved but never received. It's about inclusion and fashion democracy: fashion risk-taking and empowerment. No more seeing what you can't have; this is a fashion party that invites and inspires everyone."

I want 5'7" and 180 lbs. Give her grey hair and a big smile. Then I will have some idea of what the clothes will look like on me.

right on! for now, if they have to brand them as "plus-sized", so be it. repetitive exposure to what is ultimately normal is the only way change happens, so yay! curves FTW!

Exactly! I don't wear a size 0 or a 20. It seems all the misses fashions are designed for the 0s and the plus sizes look like mumus. I am a 59-year old size ten or twelve and am hard pressed to find anything that works for my size and age. I don't want to look teen-tartie but I sure as heck don't want to look frau-frumpy. What's a girl to do?

Actually a lot of the models in the "plus size" catalogs like Romans, Woman Within, etc. are probably a size 12 (as that is the smallest size they sell)...
08:26 AM on 08/22/2010
Most "plus size" models wear a 10 or 12.
06:21 AM on 08/20/2010
About time they did this.

I think a lousy picture was used in this article. Only the first model could ever be classified as a plus-sized model, and even that is pushing it. Clearly this picture is from another runway show.

I am glad that they are using larger models but I hate that anyone wearing an 8+ is considered to be "plus-sized."

I see on the Style page they have chosen a different and better photo, but in the article the picture of the unrealted show is still there. Maybe that will be fixed soon as well.

Yes, pictures add 10 pounds at least and this angle --knees up to head--can make anyone look poochy.

They had changed the picture by the time your response was posted. So, I wasn't talking about the current article picture.

Awesome! Some smart people are beginning to figure it out that more than half the women in this country are having a really hard time finding a good selection of plus-size clothes. This is a huge untapped market.

plus-size bust.... or waist O.o

the image would lead me to believe the former

Fashion Industry has been blowing their horn big time lately for making progress at including all types of women--like the plus-size model in mags and on the runway.
I think plus size in their Universe is an 8/10.
Yes, I am serious.

Yes, you're right, and this is unfortunate. Let's hope that enough flack has been raised, and this event will have actual plus- sized models of 12-14, although 12 is still small to me, and 14 average. Tocarra was that gorgeous high-cheekboned model on Tyra's show, and she is actually plus-sized.

How about next they make "progress" by having models under 5 foot 8 inches!
