Beck: O'Reilly Told Me He'd Give Me His Show If 100,000 People Come To My Rally

Glenn Beck said that Bill O'Reilly has "promised" to give up his 8 PM time slot if 100,000 people turn up at Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally.

Speaking on his radio show Thursday, Beck talked about a conversation he'd had with O'Reilly on Wednesday. O'Reilly, he said, had told him that, in his opinion, no more than 20,000 people would show up. Beck replied that he hoped at least 100,000 people would attend.

"He said, 'I tell you what, if you have over 100 or 200,000, you need to anchor the 8 PM show. You do the 'O'Reilly Factor,'" Beck said.

His co-host asked him if he and O'Reilly shook on the deal. "No, but I did ask for witnesses," Beck said.

The "Restoring Honor" rally has stirred up quite a bit of controversy due to the fact that it is taking place on the same day (August 28) and at the same place (the Lincoln Memorial) as the 1963 March on Washington, where Martin Luther King gave his "I Have A Dream" speech. Rev. Al Sharpton has even planned a counter-rally, which will also take place on Aug. 28.

Beck's weekly segment with O'Reilly aired Thursday night. In the segment, O'Reilly noted that civil rights leaders such as Benjamin Jealous, the head of the NAACP, had blasted Beck and vowed to "fight" his rally.

Beck said that he was not trying to cause trouble, and that in fact his rally was upholding Dr. King's values.

"Do white people own the legacy of Abraham Lincoln?" he said. "Because I don't think they do. And I don't think black people own the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. It's the idea of the content of character."
