Colorado's Mid-Year Economic Report Predicts Longer Recovery Period For Labor Market

54 Colorado companies engaged in mass layoffs during the first 7 months of 2010, resulting in 6,815 initial claims for unemployment insurance.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recorded 1,552 initial claims for unemployment in Colorado during the month of July, and 143,703 nationally.

Meanwhile, a new report from the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. predicts that Colorado is unlikely to replace the jobs it lost in 2009 until the year 2013 at the earliest.

Colorado's unemployment rate held steady at 8% during the month of July.
