Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy said on Wednesday that he hopes Tiger Woods is selected for the United States Ryder Cup team.
"I would love to face him," the 21-year-old said. "Unless [Woods's] game rapidly improves in the next month or so, I think anyone in the European team would fancy his chances against him."
McIlroy, who is now ranked seventh in the world, finished third in both the British Open and the PGA Championship.
He also said he thinks there are plenty of Americans better than Woods right now, but it wouldn't "go down too well in the States if he wasn't picked."
Woods struggled in the PGA Championship, finishing 28th despite getting off to a hot start.
