Sara Rue's Jenny Craig Commercial: 50 Pounds Heavier I Didn't Want To Leave The House (VIDEO)

First Posted: 08/22/10 09:31 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:25 PM ET

Sara Rue lost 50 pounds on Jenny Craig, and her television spot is out.

"Not owning a pair of pants that I feel comfortable in isn't normal," she says in the 'before' clip, shot in December. "Not wanting to leave the house some days because I'm so uncomfortable in my skin isn't normal."

Now showing off her new body in her skinny jeans, Sara feels "fantastic."

The multibillion dollar diet industry has us all by the short hairs. It's sad when people get into the mindset (I am also guilty of this) of "until I see a certain number on the scale, I can't pursue my dreams." What a crock!
If no-one has ever seen the Twilight Zone episode "Number Twelve Looks Just Like You," it's worth a look. A world where everybody looks the same is a very boring one. I despise the Hollywood standard, which gives us nothing but Botoxed faces, fake boobs, and skinny manikins. A lot of the time I prefer watching foreign films because there is more diversity in the way people look--just like in the real world.
A decision to lose weight is a personal one. And personally, I don't like compliments based on my appearance other than perhaps a generic "you look nice today." I look how I look. It's meaningless. The only compliments that are worth anything to me are those based on my accomplishments. I suppose it could be argued that getting in shape is an "accomplishment," but I see it as more a personal thing.
Anyway, we shouldn't be judging one another based on looks but on how we treat one another and the world around us.

Saw your comment, but can't find it now (deleted?). Thanks for your support. And thanks for joining the fight to spread the message of self-love here.

I don't know who she is, but I think she looks better after losing the 50. In fact when I saw the commercial and saw her +50 I listened to her but didn't really look at her, then when I saw her -50 my horny sensor went up. I didn't think about it much more than that. LOL

She looks great. But her not wanting to go out before seems a bit much. It's not like she needed two seats at the movies. She just looked like someone who could stand a little toning.

So much dirt, so little time.

The reality is that once she stops eating that food she'll probably gain some if not all of it back. The real trick isn't losing it, it's keeping it off. And to be honest - she looked better before. Not everybody is meant to be thin. It almost looks unnatural on her, like it did on Oprah.

I support her crusade to help other women like herself---who don't really need to lose weight---drop pounds and feel better about themselves.

Just as long as we're clear on one thing...she wasn't PAID anything to do the testimonial for Jenny Craig. She's just trying to help people.

Right...?

demonstrates clearly and once again that weight is mattter of eating right and exercising. Sorry all you doctors and drug companies with your hands out with pills and ailments. 2/3 of all adult americans are either overweight or obese and this drives the preponderance of all medical costs in this country. It's a simple formula America - eat right (Jenny, Herbalife, Nutrisystem, etc.) and a little exercise and you lose weight - we all lose weight and vistits to the doctors goe down dramatically - almost everything is connected to excess weight. Now docs and drugs companies don;tlike this because we won;t need them and their drugs but look at the results - this could be you! - geton a programand getw th a coach - call me and I'll coach you - been doingit for 5 years - No doctors, no drugs, no nothing - great for all of us but bad for doctors and of course the slavery of Obamacare

I've always liked her in the few things I've seen her in. But not wanting to leave the house because of how she felt about her weight and having a job were the camera adds pounds seems contradictory.

Shouldn't this have "advertisement" at the top?

Simply placing an ad as a real story, without any editing, context, or analysis isn't news. And if HuffPost isn't going to clearly mark these items as advertisements they're going to FURTHER damage an already questionable editorial reputation. (such as most comments like this one being censored).

Here's some more breaking news I have dug up that you may not know:

Best Buy is having a sale on something!
You can buy a hamburger at McDonalds!!
Apparently, there's this lizard that can save you money on car insurance!!!

Look, I'm all happy for Sara Rue on her desired and successful weight-loss, but this product-placement-as-news-article is so below what I thought Huffpost's standards were. Has the news media gotten so lazy/bad/distracted that they will just watch TV all day and write up articles about the commercial break?! Oh wait...

BREAKING NEWS: This is a comment on how the news media seems to be getting lazier
This feels like something Fox "News" would do, like Glenn Beck shilling for gold.

I've loved you for years, more Celebrity Poker lady! :) And with more *electrolites*!

Does anyone else find her progress odd? They could have been more consistent with the numbers. There is no way she is only 10 lbs away from that commercial where she starts off wearing a trench coat and claimed to have lost 40 lbs.
This is an interesting message considering she put herself on tv during her heavier years. I guess she hid her inner sadness and dislike of attention for a long time.

She's being paid to say that.
It's great if she lost weight and she feels better, but it's a lousy message to women that you should feel like you have to hide because you've put on some pounds.

I don't think she was saying anyone else 'should' hide, that's how *she* felt and helped her seek a way out. Good for her! I know I feel 150% better being in the best shape of my life at 40!

Melanie I concur 100%! I thought skinny was fading out but I guess not!
12:10 PM on 08/23/2010
She isn't skinny, she is slim. She still looks healthy.

It's slowly fading...the only problem is the mass media and Hollywood are fighting the inexorable pendulum swing away from anorexia with everything they've got.

Fantastic, but carrying what could be likened to a 50 pound 'suit' of fat every day and night 24/7/365. She can now do so much more than she could before with more ease and enjoyment. Kudos lovely lady!
