Google Earth Pictures: The Most Mysterious Sightings Ever (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 8/23/10   Updated: 5/25/11

Google Earth, which allows you to "fly anywhere" in the world to see satellite images of almost any place on Earth, has enabled us to "travel" to landmarks and parks, buildings and cities, and even to the ocean floor with just a few clicks.

The vantage point Google Earth provides has shown us things we weren't expecting to see--and can't always explain: a giant pink bunny, a massive drawing of Colonel Sanders, a mysterious figure carved into the earth, and a "UFO" that appears to hover over a field.

We've put together the strangest, most enigmatic Google Earth sightings ever in the slideshow below. Check them out, vote for your favorite, then send us the strangest views you've ever seen!

Rage guy is fooling around in Mexico City using Google’s Street View, and it’s for sure that he will find something that will make him mad!

Have to admit that images like these fascinate me. The world is a mysterious and wonderful place, now if we could just all get along…

2 prominent hippies in world history:
Jesus – Do unto others as you have them do unto you
John Lennon – All you need is love

Is it that hard?

Here are some answers for you:
#2 Mystery Figure: Nazca Lines, Andes Mountains
#4 Bottomless Pit: A reservoir, to serve the circles nearby-which are actually rotary irrigation patches;
alternatively, it could be an open-pit mine filled in with toxic water. (one hopes not both).
#5 Iraq's Red Lake: an evaporation pond for a salt production facility, filled with salt-loving haloarchaea microorganisms (see them flying into San Franscisco)
#7 Water tower (obv)
#23 Swastika building: a relatively popular layout for college dorms, actually
#26 Myton, Utah: a ghost subdivision
#27 Kenyan Swastika Buildings: Alternatively, Buddhist peace symbol buildings
#28 Underwater Buildings: An artifact of some boat towing sonar of some sort over the seabed in a grid pattern, trying to map the bottom (or the subbottom, depending. I wonder if that is an International Ocean Drilling Program drill site? Or an oil company drill site). Perhaps an older sonar or a bottom-penetrating sonar which got swept into the Google Earth dataset, and perhaps got misinterpreted by the Google Earth topography algorithms.

Many years ago I was at a home on the lader of the Yunque Mt. in Puerto Rico in a balcony facing north. All of a sudden her son cried, mom look! What seemed to be star in the sky was moving in a STRAIGH LINE TOWARD US. It did so for a while and then in stopped... (it has grown larger as it moved forward). It was inmobile for a short while and then started to draw back in the same straight line it had come forward until it became a small light in the sky. The star had an aurea of gray light and as it came forward the light grew until it covered the whole horizon. This happened at the home of Diane Wolf/Gray now a resident of Philadelphia. Her e-mail is Dianabel@aol.com

Where's the location for the mystery figure that looks like a cat man?

The rainbow airplane looks like three photos in quick succession, through red, green, and blue filters. This is how some satellites generate color images.

Haha the KFC one is super photoshopped!!

Nope.. I thought so too, but it proves to be real. "KFC has the honor to be the first brand to be visible from outer-space, according to company officials. The 87500 square feet logo was created by tiles placed in the Nevada desert, near the super secret Area 51. The stunt marks the revamp of the KFC logo, which now features a more streamlined image of Colonel Sanders" http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1363522

Wouldn't that be a meteor not a comet?

I've seen the Swastika building while looking through GoogleEarth myself. It didn't say where it was, so if you want to see it - and be afraid - go to Google Earth and type in the search box, "San Diego-North Island", and there it is on the island outside San Diego CA.

Why "be afraid?" It's just an oddly laid-out set of barracks buildings.
