J.R. Smith Reportedly Being Shopped By Nuggets

NBA Fanhouse reports that the Denver Nuggets are actively seeking a trade of mercurial shooting guard J.R. Smith.

According to Fanhouse's Chris Tomasson, many in the Nuggets organization have favored trading the talented, but volatile guard since he came to the team in 2006. That idea, however, was nixed by then-GM Mark Warkentien, who was adamant about keeping Smith.

Warkentien, however, was fired earlier this summer.

Smith averaged 15.4 points per game off the bench for the Nuggets last year. His shooting and offensive prowess have proved valuable to the Nuggets at times, but he has consistently feuded with coach George Karl.

Smith has also been dogged by off-the-court problems. In 2009, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail for his part in a car accident that killed his friend in New Jersey.

The Nuggets still have not hired a new GM, and--as Tomasson reports--will likely work to shore up Carmelo Anthony's contract situation before dealing Smith.
