New York City

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A leading pest control company has released a list of the 15 most bedbug-infested cities, and New York, Philadelphia and Detroit have scratched their way to the top.

Terminix released its report Tuesday, basing it on an analysis of call volume to the Memphis, Tenn.-based company's 350 service centers.

Bedbugs can be found in mattresses, furniture and clothing, and they feed off animal and human blood. Insect scientists say bedbugs are appearing on a scale not seen since before World War II. High-traffic areas such as hotels, airplanes and cruise ships are especially prone to infestations.

Ohio has three cities in the top 10 – Cincinnati is fourth, Columbus is seventh and Dayton is eighth.

The 2010 most bedbug-infested cities include:

1. New York
2. Philadelphia
3. Detroit
4. Cincinnati
5. Chicago
6. Denver
7. Columbus, Ohio
8. Dayton, Ohio
9. Washington, D.C.
10. Los Angeles
11. Boston
12. Indianapolis
13. Louisville, Ky.
14. Cleveland
15. Minneapolis, Minn.

Yeah I encountered a LOT of bedbugs in NYC. They had long slender legs, blue eyes (sometimes green and brown too), blonde hair (sometimes red) and porcelain white skin (sometimes dark too) and they kept me up all night what with their love bites. May the city of new york be blessed with male and female companions who 'bug'(ger) them in bed all night long! May the people of that city have an excellent quality of life and may they be blessed and loved and right hearted!

The good news is that Washington, D.C. is more infested than Los Angeles.

Actually 2 of the most common ways to get them are subways and movie theatres. People who have really infested homes actually carry them around on their clothes and they come off when they sit down, and crawl on you. And stay. Blech. Thankfully there is Netflix.

bed bugs have nothing to do with being dirty, they are a parasite. and cleaning the sheets is not going to help you.

For reasons still unknown, bedbugs really seem to like the state of Ohio.

I'd like to see our mayor put as much time, effort and money into fighting the bedbug and rat problem in our city as he did with changing the laws so that he could be reelected.

Everyone wants to be in to NYC, to see and to be seen. That includes the bugs, roaches, mice and rats. Everyone clamoring for space in the Big Apple. Will the bugs weigh in on the Ground Zero Mosque as well?

Are they absolutely sure that they aren't just Illinois politicians in their larval stage?

I can think of a few WA politicians and wannabes (no names mentioned but the initials D.R., the perpetual candidate, come to mind!) who fit this description. haha

That's funny.

But did you know that Tennessee is our most corrupt state?

Illinois just does a better job of public relations. Even as I type this, we have Blago on a whirlwind tour across the country making an idiot of himself on national television.

The eggs look like little black dots on the underside of the mattress and bed spring.. so if you see that you are in for a scratchy horrible time. The best thing to do is keep all your luggage and personal items IN THE BATHROOM .. they don't like hard surfaces. Never leave clothes out on the bed. Then sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite..

the bed bugs that we have now are the survivors of ddt spraying and it has no effect on them. there is no chemical that kills bed bugs. they get everything they need from human blood and do not drink or breath or clean themselves.

My father-in-law owns an exterminating company and he said years ago that this would happen. He said that they travel through luggage and furniture mostly from overseas. Some bugs are even in new furniture and you have to inspect it carefully. If you shop at consignment stores, be careful there as well.
Hint from my father-in-law: A good exterminator will not just spray the bed. The entire room has to fumigated; clothes, furniture, rug, curtains, etc. It's also a good idea to tell your neighbors so that they can get their place fumigated.
