Former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich's reality TV stint ended unceremoniously: with a baffling display of technological incompetence; with (surprise, surprise) embarrassing mismanagement; and with those two damning words from the mouth of Donald Trump: "You're fired."
But now that a jury has convicted Blago of one count and found itself hung on 23 others, the Donald has a newfound sympathy for him.
"I got to know him through 'Celebrity Apprentice,'" Trump said in an interview with NBC Chicago. "I found him to be a very nice guy.
"I feel very badly for him. He's going through a lot."
But when asked if, as Blagojevich gets another shot in the courtroom, he might also get another shot on the TV program, Trump showed the limits of his largesse.
"I don't think it would be appropriate to give him a second chance in this case," he said.
