Terry Jones, Dove World Outreach Center Pastor, Defends Quran Burning On 'Hardball' (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 08/26/10 11:11 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 06:30 PM ET

Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center, appeared on "Hardball" Thursday (Aug. 26) to defend his church's decision to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11.

"We have declared September the 11th 'International Burn a Quran Day' because we want to send a very clear message," Jones said.

"It is indeed a radical message but a very clear, radical message to Muslims, to Sharia law, that that is not welcome in America."

The "International Burn a Quran Day" is just the latest in a series of anti-Islamic protests that the Dove World Outreach Center holds each year to commemorate the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"Hardball" host Chris Matthews, who called Jones' plans to burn the Islamic holy book "a terrible idea" and warned that it "could cause trouble and even death" when televised in Muslim countries, asked, "What do you think the reaction will be as this goes on international television? What will be the consequence?"

"We believe that this message will be received as it is intended, as a warning," Jones said.

Instead of burning the Koran just start reading it to the American people over the tv and radio to expose it for its intolerence, fakery, trickery, felony-criminal-abuse-mistreatment of women, and violence promoting against all non-Muslims.

There is no need to burn the Koran to get your-our message out to the American people, Canada, Europe, etc. Just read the Koran outload-publicly-nationally to the American people to once and for all inform them of and expose its highly-discriminatory non-religeous violence-promoting message-teaching-commands.

This website gives a complete review of the Korans inaccuracies-illegitimacy-intolerence-overbearing-coercion-violence-promoting-message-teaching-commands, uncivilized-felony-criminal-abuse-violence-against-torture-murder of-against innocent-defenseless women, etc.

Everyone recognizes an abusive marriage, one where the wife is scared to put on lipstick because her husband will beat her if she does. Its her fault for provoking him. If she didn't wear the lipstick, well..then he wouldn't have had to beat her. But we're not recognizing it here, that the world is beginning to tiptoe on eggshells as if there were an angry abusive drunk with a gun sleeping it off in the next room.
Whether or not radical muslims feel they have a reason to be angry at the US, whether or not there is bad blood existing since the Crusades, they hold this country in the palm of their aggression. We may not exercise our rights as US citizens, behave as US citizens, or they might kill us.
If someone burns their book, they won't retaliate by burning a flag or the bible as you would rationally expect; instead, they will kill us.
If someone draws their prophet in a cartoon, they won't retaliate with drawing Jesus in a funny hat as a normal person would. Instead, they will kill us.
The fact that many people are following this train of thought as logical or rational, not seeing it for its terroristic success, and are accepting of it, is frightening. It is not the threat of a book-burning that is increasing islamophobia. The realization that a muslim might kill you over ink and paper is doing that entirely by itself.

Why is it that guys who promote this level of hate use names like "Dove" to describe their religious enterprises? Maybe the 1st Gainesville Church of the Dumb Red Neck or Our Father of Blissful Ignorance or Our Lady of Perpetual Stupidity?

My personal opinion: This guy wants attention. It's all about being in the spotlight. If asked, I doubt the families of victims of the 9/11 tragedy would want this kind of violent "commemoration." Shame on this pastor and his congregation. Have they forgotten Jesus? This is a shame. This is what evil looks like. I pray God will intervene, and ask his forgiveness for this wayward pastor.
I must say, this fellow appears to look and act a bit off...when I picture what the un-hooded KKK member of days gone by must look like, I dare say this pastor fits the bill. Please forgive my commentary. I'm just venting. And yes, I know... I'm not to judge. It isn't our place to judge. Just sharing my two cents. I usually don't comment on politics or religion, but this attention-seeking behavior is really annoying. I hope the president doesn't waste his time calling this pastor, but rather spends his time with leaders of the Muslim community who also pray for peace. This pastor deserves not a moment of our president's time. That would be rewarding bad behavior.

Dear Pastor Terry Jones,
I'm truly admire on your braveness. But, I don't think that your idea is the wise idea given by our Lord Jesus Christ. If Jesus is the head of your church, what do you think He would think and comment on your idea. I believe He will rebuke you instead, as He rebuke Peter.

The idea to burn the Qoran is such a stupid idea. please consider not to put all Christian in Indonesia in a big trouble unless you will provide all of Christian in Indonesia a place in your country, where they can have their job and income as they get it in Indonesia.

I pray that you may be lead by Holy Spirit in this matter.

God bless you!

sincere.

These are exactly the people that Terry Jones is going to put in harms' way: Minority Christians in other countries. They don't just burn books there either. They kill people. It would be nice if whatever cockroach is whispering this screwy stuff into Jones' ear gets stomped on. Hard.

- What warning? Do you think it can make them afraid? You must be joking.

Many Americans feel powerless to change the tide of events although they may be active informed voters. Little is transparent economically or politically. Many of us feel we are just voting on platitudes with hidden agendas based on the new golden rule, "greed". The major promotion steering our economic policy is the theory "How Much Profit Can Be Made TODAY the Future Be Damned". Yes, many Americans feel apathetic, powerless, and very frustrated even though historically and even now, we are full of hope, faith and courage. We watch the falling of our nation in muted horror; our voice reduced to a mere whisper by our leaders and the greed of those that will survive in the new America without a backward glance at the broken lives trodden upon. American Muslims may be wonderful people as individuals, but as a group their silence condones the evil plotting and tyranny within their ranks and grows as a cancer in our own backyard. Where are the voices of "good" American Muslims? And while we wait to hear from them, who is left to speak for us, our ideals and the promotion of a standard of excellent human rights? So some of us normally sane, conservative, and responsible watch and maybe understand why Terry Jones and his church are striking out. The tide must be turned; we have been like fat cats sitting on the top of a fence not hungry enough to take action. Is this the first meow?

Meet the American Ayatollah, Terry Jones - We thought it couldn't happen here, well, here he is. All that is missing is the beard and the black robes, the mentality is identical.

Tell me how a so-called 'Minister" of just 50 members gets to cause so much outrage and destruction? It's time to call the men in the white coats.
