A group of British students has set out on a 15,000-mile road trip, taking their electric sports car across the Pan-American Highway, a series of roadways stretching from Alaska to Argentina.

The team hopes their journey will change negative perceptions people may have about electric cars. "A lot of people think electric vehicles are slow, or they're boring, they're not fun to drive and they can't go for a long range. And that is all incorrect," the project's director tells Reuters, in this clip.

Their car has a 124 mph top speed and can travel 217 miles before its lithium ion phosphate batteries need to be recharged.
