'9/11 Christians' Plan Their Own Church Near Ground Zero

First Posted: 8/30/10 Updated: 5/25/11

So, what if, in addition to the Park51 interfaith cultural center and basketball courts that are not at Ground Zero, we had a bigoted kook-church for people who believe Islam is a "religion of 'hate and death'" that's also not at Ground Zero? Then, everything would be even-Steven, right? Well, good news, then, from the Salon War Room:

A bigoted pastor who has assailed gays and Muslims is launching the "9-11 Christian Center at Ground Zero" a mere two blocks from the World Trade Center site this Sunday but so far the project hasn't drawn a peep of protest from those who are outraged by the "ground zero mosque."

Pastor Bill Keller of Florida said today he will begin preaching this Sunday at the Marriott at 85 West Street (see proximity to ground zero here). A weekly service is planned at the hotel until the $8 million 9/11 Christian Center finds a permanent space. (Fundraising is going well, Keller told Salon today.)

I also think we may as well bite the bullet and recognize "9/11 Christians" as its own cult denomination.

There is already a church near ground zero. So why add another one. Another pointless stupid thing that is a waste of time and money. The "mosque" isn't a mosque and it isn't even at Ground Zero sheesh.

LOL, love that! When I saw the cost for their little project at 8 Million I thought why not give that money to the government to pay down the debt--seems these are the same people who are hollering about how huge it is and how their children will be saddled with it, etc. Beside, it was "their" President who is responsible for going to war with Iraq which gave us this insane national debt in the first place.

Wouldn't a christian church be an insult to all the non christians who died there?

I think anywhere the dust went should be considered hallowed ground and no one should be allowed to step on it for all eternity. Then we should shut down all the highways where people have died.

I don't think a Mosque or a Church should be built on the site. I think there should be a memorial like the Vietnam memorial. To recognize the names of the people that died in result of a radical religious extremist action. Due to the underlying reasons of why the WTC was brought down, I think any type of religious structure placed as a memorial would be just as wrong and disastrous as me opening a restaurant that serves nothing but pork ribs in Iran or Jerusalem.

9 11 "christian" church financial update 9/3/10

"As we head into September, I really need your prayers and financial support more than ever. We have to cover the last $10,000 of our operational budget for August, $40,000 for September, and just need 4 more people to make a one-time$5,000 to finish paying off our 2009 shortfalls. That is $70,000 that we need during September, $30,000 of that immediately!" - bill keller, liveprayer.

yes, his donations are really going well, lol.

You know, Anna, how sorry I am that people like him and his ilk get all of the attention. Another person's religion, faith or lack of faith is not my business; I can only try and live up to my own beliefs. But it galls me that someone who is seeking faith might run across a person like Keller and then say to themselves: "If that's what I have to believe, then I want no part of it." That is truly a sin.

Disgusting, promoting the site is promoting the lie that there was a mass marriage of young girls...

"We will need to raise $10,000 immediately to cover our initial costs prior to opening September 5th. By the end of August, we need to raise $400,000. $100,000 of that will cover the weekly services of the 9-11 Christian Center at Ground Zero from September through the end of the year. $300,000 will be used to air the Liveprayer TV program each day in the New York City TV market on a major secular station. As we have learned over the years, the TV program is a critical element to keep the daily flow of God's Truth regarding the issues of the day, to minister to people's needs, to bring the lost to faith in Christ, to promote the 9-11 Christian Center at Ground Zero, but will also help to attract financial support for this effort.

From September through the end of the year, we will need to raise the $8 million needed to operate at full capacity during 2011. $1 million of that will go towards the operations expenses of the 9-11 Christian Center at Ground Zero during 2011, $1 million will cover the years TV budget in the local New York market during 2011, and the other $6 million will allow the program to be aired nationally on a major secular network during 2011." - bill keller liveprayer

Sad thing is Keller would probably fill the pews.... with tourists who've come to the WTC site. And maybe a handful of New Yorkers. Maybe.

New Yorkers are savvy... tourists are different as they would not know the background of this kook.

Please, NY already has too many houses of worship. Enough already.

And they're mostly empty.

Let's put these parcels to some kind of productive use and restore them to the tax rolls.

Maybe we can restore these places to the tax rolls anyway if we re-classify them as places of entertainment, which, in reality, is what they are. I mean, church, synagogue, mosques, Disneyland, what's the difference, the mythology?
