First Posted: 9/1/10 09:10 AM ET   Updated: 5/25/11 06:30 PM ET

The most creative art can come from the most unexpected places -- in this case, a toy. A number of contemporary artists proves that the limitations of an Etch A Sketch can foster incredible, detailed pop art, some of which have been sold for upwards of $10,000 and attracted the attention of U.S. presidents. Which one is the best? Vote for your favorite!

As a kid I could barely make a straight line with an Etch-A-Sketch. These creations are crazy!

it isnt that i am positive, but i think many of those, especially the obama one, are probably fakes... that sort of gradation(halftoning!) and especially the lack of connecting lines between elements in the seal.. It looks totally fake to me.

See I was thinking the exact same thing, but it looks like it is possible to get some good shading effects with the etch-a sketch. Some of those still may be fake though, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were real...people can do pretty amazing things with a little determination...and a LOT of time

Yes, some of them were exceptional! There were also a few that shouldn't even be classified in the same catagory, they were just okay; Overall, beautiful!

It's a pretty safe bet every time you see something like this to assume that the Mona Lisa will be in there somewhere.

How do they do this? Is it a normal etch a sketch?
