Please don't be alarmed. I know Labor Day is today, but really the summer lasts a couple more weeks. Still plenty of time for this whole Summer of Recovery thing. Not to mention when Summer ends, the wonderful Autumn of Recovery will be upon us.

I don't know what happened to my post for Civilian Unemployment statistics. I had all the information in columns. Now it's all squashed together and difficult to read.
Sorry about that.

In Reagan's first term unemployment rose from 7.5 % at the start of 1981 to more than 8.6% by January 1982.

Nice record for Dems. . .The Democratic Party has a better record on reducing unemployment.

Way to vote for that change college kids. I am glad for one thing though, these kids learned a valuable lesson about voting. Voting based on skin tone or who gives Chris Matthews a tingles up his leg are probably not good reasons to vote for a person.

.......and this is all the GOP has to offer.....

Republicans introduce “Kill the economy” plan

Congressional Republicans unveiled a plan on Monday that they said would hurt the nation’s economy, benefit the wealthy at the expense of the middle class and add billions to the national debt.

The move is a continuation of Republican policies during the Bush administration and part of a plan they hope will lead to rising voter dissatisfaction and Republican gains at the ballot box.

“Remember how we racked up huge deficits during the Bush years, gave billions to the wealthy and let the middle class fall behind? Well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet,” House Minority Leader John Boehner (R- Ohio) said. “We’re going to drive those unemployment and deficit numbers up so high that the American people will be voting Republican until they realize we screwed them over once again.” (continued….)

The government is wasting its opportunity to do anything of value. How much of the stimulus actually went directly to paychecks?

Nobody's looking out for the average person anymore. We must look out for ourselves...financial independence is possible with a little elbow grease.

I've been out of work for over a year. (had to close my small business due to recession) Hundreds of resumes later and still no work. I've lost everything in my life; wife, career, 401k, and soon the car I can't make payments on. I am literally weeks away from having to pack a hobo bundle and start the 2nd half of my life on the streets. I have no future. Is this what I lived, loved and worked so hard for as a guy that 'did everything right'? I am not unique, unfortunately. I even started a blog for people to come and share their recession stories in hopes that together, we can help one another...although my site has gotten many wonderful people there now, I'm not entirely sure I can maintain it while I'm homeless. I hope many of you visit my site and perhaps keep it fresh and topical while I apparently fade away into the ether. I'm 42, decades of experience. I can't get even fast food jobs..what do I do? Some kids are taking split shifts & 2nd jobs that people like me desperately need. Employers know this & exploit wages & benefits to their end.
Tell me, anyone have a job out there for me?..***crickets***....

doesnt BO want the young to go out an donate their time for the good of all. why would the need a job that pays you? go join the Obama Youth
02:46 PM on 09/05/2010
Or maybe if you read the article and realized that they aren't many jobs for the youth, but then again, you're named after a Jersey Shore character so you probably can't READ.
12:02 PM on 09/05/2010
The media is shying away from talking about one of the biggest abusers of youth labor...themselves. In today's market youth need internships to get a future job. Some pay, most don't. If you comb Craigslist during the late spring and early summer you will find tons of ads from media organizations that offer internships without pay at the most prestigious media organizations....some say you must accept college credit. This is a joke as most top colleges will not accept the credit because the experiences are often nothing more than coffee gophers and filers. Those who do accept the credit will do this only once. It makes it hard for students to earn the money they need for school and get the experience they need for their future. Many media organizations have not be hiring because they have a constant stream of free labor....as they control coverage of this story it remains their dirty little secret.

Rahm Emanuel..

""Never let a serious crisis go to waste."

Using the crisis to get "pork barrel" money to the democratic constituents was a plan that succeeded.
The Democrats were hoping that this economic recession would end on it's own as most business cycles do, and no one would notice the big checks being written to the special interest groups.

It was a 50/ 50 shot. If the recession ended, the democrats would claim that their policies worked. If it didn't end, well at least they got their share of the pie before anyone else did.
