Mark Halperin: Democrats Brace For 'GOP Tsunami'

2010 Elections Democrats

Time:

Two months before Election Day, finding a pessimistic Republican strategist is about as tough as spotting a five-legged unicorn on your local interstate. 2010 started on an ominous note for the Democrats when Republican Scott Brown captured the late Ted Kennedy's Massachusetts Senate seat in a special election, and every dynamic that led to Brown's upset has survived or accelerated from late winter into spring, through the summer and now into the cusp of autumn. Republicans are either going to have a fantastic Nov. 2 -- or a revolutionary one.

The pundits are feeding the newscycle and the media is repeating the meme: Democrats are disparaged, disillusioned and won't turn out in great numbers this November.
They are hoping that actual Democratic voters will see that over and over and over and over and decide to stay home on Election Day, thus proving both the method and the result.
Seeing these poll numbers being wildly across the board shows that polls don't mean anything.
If Democrats believe the hype, the headlines which have been written months ago will be true. If Democrats do what they know to be the right thing: get up, get out and vote, then headlines will be re-written.
In my lifetime, only in the year-after-9/11 2002 elections did the party of the President not lose big. Democrats are sure to lose some but the tidal wave will only happen if we listen to what they want us to hear.
Think for yourself. Vote! Vote! Vote!

Define Tsunami..... I believe they actually meant "riffle". The republican riffle. You'll see.

The CORPORATE MEDIA is sure driving this tactic to discourage Democratic voters, but we will NOT be deterred. Regardless of what the Dem voters are debating and upset about, I can guarantee you Dems will NOT vote for the gop. Obama voters better get down to the voting booth or they will forever be known as those that destroyed America.

How stupid are people anyway....

I've heard this before. They think if they say it, it will happen.

It did in 2008.

Obama is trying to do the "right" thing, unike previous Republican Administratons whose every policy position was to play to their political base. Obama perceives his job as President of the entire country, not just the Democratic Party. They GOP, shrewdly, agreed from day one to have no part of it. They have been remarkably determined and with the aid of the Tea Party, who are nothing more than people unwilling to abide by the results of the 2008 election, their tactic has worked. Now, the people who hated Obama from the beginning hate him even more because they've become convinced of the truth of their own lies. Furthermore, a significant portion of Obama's "base" are angry because he was unwilling to fight Quixotic battles that he could not win and accepted half of a loaf, instead of no loaf at all.

Democrats wrongly believe that politics only matters on election day. Once the election is over, they think their job is finished. In fact, its never over.

IF the corrupt Republicans win the election the ones who will suffer the most will be those on Medicare, social security and the decimated middle class! So think America and don't be swayed by the hate mongering propaganda and allow the corporations, banks and wall St to take complete control of our country! The only ones who will benefit are the rich! You won't!

With all that's going on in the democrat party right now, you sure you want to start throwing out the term "Corruption"? Not sure how many in the GOP are under investigation right now, do you know? How about the demons?

Let's turn the whole shebang back over to the Repubs, give them a veto proof majority. After all they have great proposals to change things. Don't they? Or have any of them said anything solution oriented except to save the Bush tax cuts and make them even bigger. How about we abolish ALL taxes while we're at it. Outlaw abortion, and stem cell research, ban sex education, well, I just have to stop before I run out of things they will change. In the end we start the revolution earlier than later, It's coming, a rethug sweep out of the congress just moves the timetable up, Good bye America, it was good to know you

They're weak on proposals
I'll vote for them any, since no proposals are better than bad proposals.

I'm certainly not crying to say goodbye to Nancy and Harry! They have done absolutely nothing to help the economy and the 20 million people out of jobs over the past 18 months. While the White House and Leaders of Congress have been living like Kings and Queens, millions of Americans have been losing their homes, farms, and life savings.

It's about policy, look how much Obama has spent, the debt HE has incurred. You're right, people aren't stupid, hence the Nov change that's a-coming.

I'm blaming Harry Reid. Reids a spinless DINO who caved into the rushpublicans.
It should be noted that Reid has a 100% NRA rating among other things.

All we have to do is look at history to see the way this is going to turn out!

From 1929 Republicans had 4 years to fix what they broke. They couldn't do it. In 1933 they were tossed out for 20 years and throughout the 30's Republicans lost every election and got down to 17 senate seats by 1937 while Repubs held 75 seats.

While it may not be as bad as 1937, it's certainly at least 1933 and they are going to lose for the 3 rd straight election in a row.

People have not forgotten!

Thanks to the Corperate media, the GOP set gains for their party. A party that stands for nothing but no, and no one from the media seems to challenge them at all. This has been their narritive since President Obama was sworn in, Democrats will suffer major losses, they always do. Then why won't hte talking heads as the Republicans, what would you have done differently?? What are your plans??? Why in the Senate Me McConnell you are blocking bills that will help the economy?? Why are you not standing up for the American people?? They have said this from the begining, they want him to fail, this is his waterloo. Then Rush was quick to say we want his policies to fail, well sir his policies and this country are on in the same!! Republicans why do you want to turn the USA into a third world country??

Great post! So true as well and I completely argee with you!

Republicans are running on nothing because they have nothing to run on.

There is a silent majority that is out there waiting to kick them to the curb in November and they don't even see it coming.

Congress and the administration should have focused on job creation from the first day. Pelosi, Reid and President Obama pursued a more political agenda that ignored the priority needs of the country. No matter how you slice it, the stimulus did not deliver what was promised, was too expensive, and did not adequately address the growing needs of public works and infrastructure improvements throughout the U.S. The stimulus contained too much pork and did nothing to create and sustain jobs over the long haul. Unfortunately, Democrats will pay for neglecting job creation come November.

And excatly how does Government create jobs, and where was this anger when the USA was losing 800,000 jobs a month???

Jay, the whole purpose of the stimulus was to stem job loss and create new jobs. The idea was a good one, but was rushed through the Congress too fast, and became loaded with a bunch of needless special interest pork that failed to save many jobs, let alone create any. The anger at losing 800,000 jobs was there. There is still anger. We got to put this country back to work. More people with paychecks= more spending, it's what we need right now. Absent a good jobs bill, we're stuck with having to give bigger tax breaks to the people who need them the least...the wealthy. If the Bush tax cuts were so great, why did the republican Congress back in 2001, put a sunset clause on them?

From the first day the main agenda for all Americans was financial reform and healthcare! It's wasn't even 2 years ago and no one seems to remember what the agenda was that everyone was interested in. As things got worse, it's turned to jobs, jobs, jobs.

What needs to be pointed out to people is the the Repugs have done everything imaginable to stymie a recovery right down to nixing the latest jobs bill. Yet Americans are going to vote for them?

It's the most convoluted thinking I've ever seen--elect the GOP that vote against you all the time.

Living in a town on the Pacific Coast, I'm all too well of the damage tsunamis can cause and all too well what good preparation and getting on high ground can save. The Democrats have the high ground in this election and we are very prepared to save this nation from Republican and Bagger ruin.

Nancy and Harry - get busy and pull some magic out of the hat .... get Obama to put his foot on the neck of the Republicans and MAKE A BIG NOISE ABOUT THE PARTY OF NO and what it will mean for the American public.

You want violence? MAny are happy with the Party of No - no more spending, excessive government, US apologies, anti-business rhetoric, and so on. Obama and his demons have spent enough. They have taken the mess Bush started and made it much, much worse. We've seen what the demons do when they have absolute power; it's time to take America back from the government.
