Melrose Shopping Renaissance

Melrose Mania

Is the glass half empty--or half full? The long-awaited Vivienne Westwood shop has yet to open, and other spaces on that western stretch of Melrose Avenue remain empty. Then again, at least three high-profile boutiques have opened in the neighborhood. The Vanessa Bruno flagship, at 8440 Melrose Avenue, is a first for the United States. The Parisian designer has decorated her first American shop with photos of her muse, French actress and model Lou Doillon, and stocked with the boho fixings that make up her style: high-heeled lace-up booties and wedges, leather satchels, and sequin trimmed tote bags. A caramel-colored leather and shearling coat takes center stage on a rack at the back of the store, while mannequins wearing leather wrap-around minis, flowy, floral dresses, and tweed coats with cashmere tights are perched on white leather settees.
