Mumford High School Shooting: 2 Students Shot In Detroit

Two teenagers were shot just outside of Mumford High School in Detroit this afternoon on the first day of school, per Fox Detroit.

Detroit Public School officials confirmed two Mumford students were shot at about 3:30 p.m.

According to ABC-7 in Detroit, the shooting took place just feet away from school property, and witnesses say the incident began with a fight at the school that spilled out into the streets.

Detroit Public Schools Police Chief Roderick Grimes said both injured students were taken to a Detroit hospital with non-life threatening injuries and police are "aggressively investigating."

Several local outlets are reporting that one boy and one girl were shot. Some 2,134 students attend the school, which offers grades 9-12 and is located on Detroit's northwest side.

ABC-7 first reported the shooting, saying only at the time it took place near Mumford High School.
