The village of Moale in the Central African Republic has been waiting for fresh water for 16 years.
On Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. ET, viewers from around the world can watch a team of volunteers drill more than 700 feet to reach a water source to create a permanent well via a live stream from charity: water.
The live drill feed has been an annual event since 2007 for the nonprofit, which focuses on providing safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
The village of Moale currently collects water from a source that takes two hours for residents to walk to.
In 1994, the village attempted to dig a well by hand but was unable to reach a water source after shoveling 100 feet below ground level.
Later attempts reached a depth of 400 feet, where the earth still remained dry.
New surveys revealed a potential water source 700 feet below the surface and Tuesday's attempt will be the first time a team has tried to reach water at that level in the village amid many obstacles.
