Wyclef: Sean Penn Sniffs Cocaine, Penn DENIES (VIDEO)

First Posted: 9/7/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Sean Penn Wyclef Jean

Wannabe Haitian president Wyclef Jean accused Sean Penn of sniffing cocaine, and Penn has shot back. Penn previously criticized Jean's potential candidacy and said he had been a 'non-presence.'

During a concert over weekend, Jean sang his song 'President,' changing some lyrics to be about Penn, including, 'I got a message for Sean Penn: Maybe he ain't see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine.'

Scroll to watch.

Not so says Penn, who has spent months helping out in Haiti since the devastating earthquake. A rep for the actor gave the following statement.

"Mr. Jean is clearly unfamiliar with the physical demands put upon volunteers in Haiti. As aid workers there, the notion of depleting the body's immune system thru the use of illicit drugs is ludicrous. More specifically, J/P Haitian Relief Organization (a.k.a. JPHRO) has a ZERO tolerance policy for any and all illegal drugs. As the leader of this organization, Sean Penn has not only set this policy, but adheres to it. That Mr. Jean would make such a false accusation is reckless and saddening, but not surprising.

Wyclef is acting like a punk snitch...

@bluwoman

I never said I haven't lost respect for Penn. If this was an article about Penn abusing his wife, then I would've addressed my distaste for such actions but for what he's doing now(humanitarian efforts with no real political agenda of his own) - I do admire him. In this specific context, I lost respect for Wyclef, because it's his comments that we're merely discussing and not Penn's lifestyle or previous mistakes. Once again, I'm sure if we peel the layers of Wyclef's history also, it'll reveal things that aren't exactly angelic. But we're talking about the issue now. And my original reply to you mysteriously disappeared too :\

Outta curiousity - why do you replace your 'a' with @ and o with '0' ? Not attacking you or anything, but it does discredit the seriousness of your replies a bit

Slandering people is not a good attribute for a future President. Sean Penn Talks the Talk and walks the walk. One of the few Oligarch Actors to prefer action over words. This singer should find a place to hide as he has made a fool of himself.

If anyone needed proof why Wyclef Jean should not be President of anything, it's right here in this video clip. Petty/small-minded/vindictive/immature ... the people of Haiti are much better served without him.

Wyclef needs to wake up! There is NO way he will become president of Haiti. He needs to go back to school and learn about the way international government works.

I've observed Sean Penn in the media over the space of nearly 30 years. he's uptight and gets into petty snits all the time. Uptight and insecure . I wouldn't be surprised if he read this and came after me via twitter...not to say he's not a great actor or that he's not doing great things . just saying he's kind of a bitch.

Methinks Penn's people were a little too quick in the defense. Somethings you just ignore, unless they hit too close to home. And since when did a celebrity "work" in these situations? Touring =/= work.

So much for being taken seriously about anything.

Even if it were true most of Hollywood sniffs and It has nothing to do with him running for president. His behavior after the fact showed that the decision was a good on in my opinion. He sounds life a child.

That's the only comeback Wyclef could think of? I guess it's because he has been too busy trying to cover up how his charity was used to funnel money to him and Duplessis.

Could be that Wyclef is both too young and too much of an entertainer to be an effective politician. I thought he seemed tone-deaf on the cocaine accusation. One has to be able to restrain their self when it comes to responding to critics. The problem is, Wyclef's critics have been unnecessarily harsh - not in what they've said, but the timing of the criticism.

Sean Penn isn't one of those critics who ought to be dismissed lightly, on account of the time he's spent helping with relief and development. He thinks Wyclef is a political lightweight. He's entitled to that opinion, and to make his case. I don't think the cocaine accusation has any relevance or merit.

It's the other critics of Wyclef who gave the impression of kicking a man while he was down, struggling on behalf of Haitian people in a completely different context than some petty accounting scandal.

It's not simple. Not everyone has a useful opinion to contribute. That's all I'm saying. We'll see how it goes.
