Chris Christie For President In 2012? 'No Way,' He Says

Chris Christie 2012 President
NJ Gov. Chris Christie (R) said Tuesday that there was "no way" he'd run for president in 2012.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), an up-and-coming star in the GOP, said Tuesday that he there was "no way" he'd run for President in 2012.

Christie, who won a decisive victory over incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine last year, has been making waves as a poster child for a new brand of conservative politician, but on Don Imus's Fox Business show Tuesday he tried to put to rest any hopes of his 2012 presidential aspirations.

IMUS: You're not gonna run for President, definitely?

CHRISTIE: No, no. Come on. Look at me. Me for President? Come on, seriously. No way. No way.

I mean, I know I've heard all these weasel words that other people use 'Well, I have no plans right now', 'I don't think that would be something I would like to do'.

I'm looking at you: No, ain't happening. Not doing it.

IMUS: Something in your background that would come out you're worried about?

CHRISTIE: Oh, let me tell you something, Don. You and I could have an off-air conversation about that. That would be quite a conversation. I don't feel like getting in an airplane in November or December for the next two years of my life. It's just not what I want to do and I love this job.

Gov. Christie also discussed his weight with Imus, who last year notoriously called Christie "fat."

Imus mentioned that Christie had lost a lot of weight, though Christie humbly likened it to "throwing a couple deck chairs off of the Titanic."

To anyone planning to see New Jersey governor Christie, the newest Republican darling, touring America with his message of reform: Ask him about "Race to the Top", Obama's state-education program to which New Jersey submitted a blundered application which cost the state $400M in funding. Lest Christie (gasp!) LIE about it, the truth is that a question about 2008-9 funding was answered using 2010-11 figures, which Education Commissioner and Christie bedfellow Bret Schundler inserted after editing out the 2008-9 figures, an egregious grade-school blunder never caught by a $500K consultant. Christie's only responses: blame Washington, fire Schundler, and hide the consultant; but the fact is, Christie can't get more than 51% of NJ's districts to participate in Race to the Top.

I don't agree with this guy on everything, but I have to say I was laughing hard hearing him smack down those whining, greedy teachers and their greedier unions. Good for him!

I am a New Jerseyan and I have two problems with Christie. 1) Transit budget cuts. 2) Higher education budget cuts. Except for those two items, Christie has so far been somewhat okay (and I like his Atlantic City overhaul idea). However, I wouldn't support him for president, because I still find it hard to believe that a lack of government contributions would help the economy. Furthermore, while fiscal conservatism sounds like a good idea on a household budget or in the world of business, it tends to prompt much complaining in politics, since people are affected by service cuts, cost raises, or both. I say to wannabe budget slashers: sure, go ahead, try it, but don't come running home to Mama if you get burned.

Anybody wanna bet that GOP fiscal conservatives' penny pinching will come back to bite them?

I wonder how much of the bashing is coming from teachers who are faced with paying a percent of their insurance & risk not getting a 4% pay increase this next year, unions who are being held accountable, & terrified politicians who run the risk of having to shape up. Get the man to run in 2012 and let's clean house. His message of giving the power to those VOTED into office BY THE PEOPLE and getting them from behind their desk, getting them off of their duff, and doing their job or getting them out... has a nice ring to it. Forget his weight, that's a cheap shot - he's a formidable force and I'll vote for him if given the chance - Hell, I'll help campaign for him.

He's a great Governor and would make a great President.. I'd support him over any of the other candidates.. He could lose that weight..

Um, making him President does not exactly get his policies out of our state...

Who wrote this puff piece? Christie is a petty tyrant.

So it's a puff piece if it's not automatically a liberal hit job?

This just shows how desperate the GOP is for leadership. As soon as ANYONE generates any buzz they thrust him/her forward as a potential contender (Brown, Jindal etc), until they get a little too much exposure showing they are another vapid, ignorant conservative creep. As a long time NJ resident, the only reason this guy was elected was he name wasn't Jon Corzine. He won't even see a 2nd term in NJ let alone a higher office.

Anyone who even remotely thinks Christie is a stand-up guy needs to watch this, courtesy of another poster here:

Rachel Maddow tears him apart with is own words! It's masterful. And i find it quite curious that no one sitting around the desk of Morning Joke, on the same network, will ask him about this debacle! He's been on the show 2-3 times since he blew getting $400 million from the Obama Administration to reform public schools in NJ. Not one question!! He's not fit to be Governor, let alone President!

Really, I saw him questioned about this on Morning Joe. Didn't' someone get fired in his administration over this exact mistake?

It's a funny thing actually the man was first asked to resign.

The man then asked Christie to fire him because if he resigned he wouldn't get unemployment benefits.
