Eric has profound respect for what the Germans went through, and that they may be highly sensitive about it. So he decides, well, scr*w it, we've decided that we know what's best for them, and we'll do whatever we want to do anyway.

It's great to be king, isn't it, making unilateral decisions about what people should want.
