Quran Burning CANCELED: Dove World Outreach's Terry Jones Drops Offending 'Stunt'

Terry Jones

AP / Huffington Post   First Posted: 9/9/10 Updated: 5/25/11

The leader of a small Florida church that espouses anti-Islam philosophy says he is canceling plans to burn copies of the Quran on Sept. 11.

Pastor Terry Jones announced Thursday at a chaotic news conference that he decided to cancel his protest, claiming that he struck a deal with the leader of a planned Islamic Center near Ground Zero who agreed to move its controversial location.

However, Imam Rauf, the leader of the proposed center did not make a deal and has never talked to Pastor Terry Jones, Park51 officials tell Huffington Post, adding that they are open to all solutions and that the proposed Islamic center is open to dialogue and reconciliation with the community in lower Manhattan.

Jones's plans to burn Islam's holiest text Saturday sparked an international outcry.

President Barack Obama, the top U.S. general in Afghanistan and several Christian leaders had urged Jones to reconsider his plans. They said his actions would endanger U.S. soldiers and provide a strong recruitment tool for Islamic extremists. Jones' protest also drew criticism from religious and political leaders from across the Muslim world.

As the famous American Philosopher Yogi Berra said:
"It aint' over till it's over the the .....lady sings."
No one has sung the song yet,
His position was he would burn them, then he said it was canceled, then he's quoted as syaing, it's suspended, not canceled.
I don't believe a word he says, it's his actions that matter.

Some how he turns an offer to meet and talk,  Read More...

In all the world's history, book burnings have never been associated with anyone or anything good.

Tax Exempt Churches: Religious Freedom vs Tax Exemptions: "Most people are aware that a church or religious organization can lose their tax exempt status for engaging in partisan political activity, like endorsing a political candidate. What many aren't aware of, though, is that the same can happen for promoting or engaging in things contrary to government policy. Tax exemption is a privilege, not a right."

First, why did the MSM pick up this piece of nonsense in the first place? Some backwater nutso with his 50 followers gets international attention???

Time was when such stupidity would have been ignored as it deserves. Now the Murdock Empire plays up such nonsense while ignoring the $2 BILLION A WEEK spent on wars seen as anti-Moslem by a good part of the world.

PS: $2 billion a week = more than $33K A SECOND. And we wonder why the economy and infrastructure are on the fast road to Third World-ism. How many Americans make even $33K A YEAR anymore?

While I've been writing this, I estimate that another $2 MILLION of YOUR MONEY was tossed into the sand pits of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Where were all of these people, who scream and cry that Islam is taking over the world, two years ago? It seems that now that there is someone with "a foreign sounding" name as president, the sky is falling...the sky is falling!

Religious fanaticism and the avarice for recognition are the only two things that compelled
this so-called Pastor to promulgate to the world what he was contemplating;

My take on Terry Jones – “who isn’t really a Pastor; for no son or daughter of God would commit such a depraved act! This is what I” think” was in Mr. Jones’ mind when he conceived this “narcissistic poisonous deluge!”

Terry Jones Nidus!

“I am a fool and I am attempting to do a very stupid nonsensical draconian act, but by the way, this burning of the Quran is only an illusion in my present state of paroxysm, because I can be held responsible for sedition. So, to make a long story short, the burning of the Quran idea is
just metaphoric to get the attention of Sarah Palin and Joe Boehner and the extreme right wing nuts to contrast the projected Moslem Mosque and their Islamic centre, as a means to an end that they might relocate their project elsewhere. But, I really don’t think it would work!

I would get the half-crazed media who love to cover the crazies of the world and I would get
important people to give me some attention. My inclination to burn the Religious Book of another Religion that I haven’t even read, I know it to be insane, but my thirty followers and I would be known around the world."

"THIS IS WHAT DESPERATION LOOKS LIKE!" It looks like an incoherent sentence written in all caps and ending in a preposition.

1. I'm not sure what he's talking about with regards to Islam.
2. He's totally right about Republicans non-stop filibustering and bigotry.

At the Wasilla 9/11 rally yesterday presiding minister Stan Roach, pastor of the Independent Baptist Church of Anchorage, told a reporter he was worried Islam was taking over the world.

"We have cowards in the White House," he said. "We're afraid to say anymore that we're a Christian nation. Islam has stated they want to rule the world, and they are taking over."

Has anyone asked Sarah Palin if this is "thetical" with our American ideals? Perhaps GOP leadership has an opinion.

Rush Limbaugh Never Let On He Went to School With Pastor Jones

As you may have heard, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh and Terry Jones (you know, the Gainesville, Fla., pastor who threatened to burn Korans on 9/11) graduated from the same high school in Cape Girardeau, Mo., in 1969.

On Friday, Pastor Jones was all over morning TV and continued to go back and forth on whether he would be burning any Korans on the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks.

Interestingly, Limbaugh referenced the Pastor Jones story on two recent occasions. But according to transcripts, he never disclosed their shared past. Instead, Limbaugh referred to him simply as "the preacher," "the guy," or "the Gainesville pastor."

On Sept. 8, Limbaugh asked listeners of his popular radio show: "By the way, has the ACLU weighed in yet on the Gainesville pastor who wants to burn the Koran? Why not? I mean, if the ACLU would be consistent they'd move in there and defend this Gainesville pastor's right to burn the Koran."

I despise Limbaugh with the passion of a thousand lonely adolescents, but there's no reason to think he knows Jones. I didn't know most of my graduating class. ::shrugs:: I'm all for calling Limbaugh out, but we've got plenty of legitimate reasons to go after him.

This guy claims his intent was to "expose an element of Islam that is radical and dangerous". Has he been living under a rock or in a cave somewhere for the last decade? Rarely ever have I seen or heard such monumental self absorption coupled with inexcusable stupidity.
