Carla Bruni Steps Out In Southwest France (PHOTOS)

It feels like years since we've seen Carla Bruni, but the French First Lady stepped out looking as chic as ever on Sunday. She and her husband Nicolas Sarkozy visited the southwestern French city of Montignac to celebrate to 70th anniversary of the rediscovery of the Lascaux cave. For the occasion, Carla wore a light black sweater, khaki pants and flats. Take a look:

Suitable to the occasion, but definitely not inspired. So much can be done with simple dressing - but in my opinion this looks bleak. Jackie O knew that and even when she wore espadrilles and linen slacks, she always had that little bit extra that transformed her outfit into an art form. It's an ineffable quality that she had.

She does look lovely in this scaled back outfit. She looks expensive and elegant which I can't always say about her. Love the camel and black combo.

Her eyes still look funny from the recent p/surgery. Hope they improve as her eyes were one of her major assets.

I disagree, there is nothing wrong with her outfit if she was on vacation, but for a presidential visit, this does not cut the cake....Of course I would hate to see her spending 1 milllion dollars a year to dress up, but I would have expected to see a scarf and bracelet at least to dress it up a bit....Frankly, when all the men are wearing suits, it is disrespectful to not make an effort to wear something more business like....She sure did enjoy flirting with the camera....

Schatsie, I respect your right to disagree. I still think that for the occasion she was dressed appropriately. She never does wear jewelry to speak of now accessories. She always enjoys flirting with the camera. She's turned it into an art form.
