Naughty Animals: 9 Notorious Offenders On The Run (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 09/13/10 09:03 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 06:35 PM ET

As human development continues to spread into the few remnants of untouched wilderness that remain, encounters between local wildlife and people grow more common, sometimes with unpleasant results.

While animals can't ever truly be criminals -- as the only laws they abide by are Mother Nature's -- they still tend to arouse the haughty pursuit and vigilant retaliation of angry people who have fallen victim to the creature's instinct to survive.

Whether burglarizing for a meal, fleeing captivity, or just looking to have some fun, these gangster baboons, inebriated beach monkeys, and pizza-eating bear bandits have all earned themselves rascal reputations.

Check out our list of 9 fugitive fauna, and vote for the most notorious of the bunch!

Drunk Island Monkeys
1 of 10
Originally from Africa, vervet monkeys in the Caribbean have become quite a nuisance thanks to their insatiable taste for alcohol. Roaming beach-side resorts, the monkeys plunder stray beverages and heist cocktails from unsuspecting loungers, and many of them proceed to drink themselves into a clumsy stupor. Not all of the monkeys are looking to party, as some prefer to stick with soda and other beverages. Interestingly enough, the BBC reports that the percentage of vervet monkeys who drink compared to those who don't almost perfectly mirrors the same ratio in humans, suggesting genetic makeup plays a large part in a person's tendency toward alcoholic consumption. Watch the full BBC video HERE.

Well, I know which Monkey gang I'd join. Sounds to me like a perfect life.

" .....their(my) insatiable taste for alcohol. Roaming beach-side resorts, the monkeys (I) plunder stray beverages and heist cocktails from unsuspecting loungers (punters), and many of them (then I) proceed to drink themselves (myself) into a clumsy stupor."

It said, "The fugitive rhesus macaque .... is believed to be an ancestor of the monkeys used in the Tarzan movies..." Surely the writer meant descendent. Right?

I have seen those monkeys in St Kitts at the Turtle beach bar and they steal more drinks than Lindsy Lohan at the turtle beach bar in St Kitts.

it seems to be more cases of stupid humans than gangsta animals. Dont leave food if you dont want animals to try and get it.

Didn't they blow up a stuffed pony for looking like a terrorist threat in Orlando last week? By comparison the little piggie must have looked like the devil incarnate to the average Floridian?

The last time I went drinking with a vervet monkey, it wasn't pretty. Those little suckers can drink like a preacher's wife.

the picture of the northern montana wild boar wrestling is obviously not a picture of the event. the animal being chased is a pig and if i'm not mistaken the picture isn't of an past event occurring in montana. you get paid for this?
