Stewart: 'Summer Of Recovery' Becoming 'Autumn Of Nothing But Ramen Noodles For Dinner' (VIDEO)

If you were under the impression that this was supposed to be the "Summer of Recovery," you are not alone, but as Jon Stewart points out, it was more like the summer of Islamaphobia and bed bugs.

Last night on "The Daily Show," Stewart recalled Vice President Joe Biden referring to summer 2010 as an economy booster, dubbing it the "Summer of Recovery," only to have home sales plummet to an all-time low, 54,000 jobs lost, and unemployment hovering around 9.6%.

"So the 'Summer of Recovery' is quickly sliding into the 'Autumn of Nothing but Ramen Noodles For Dinner,'" Stewart said.

What's even worse, is that Austan Goolsbee, who recently took over as chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, is even more pessimistic about the economy, saying unemployment will not be going down anytime soon. This led Stewart to wonder: did Biden even speak to Goolsbee before giving summer '10 such an optimistic name?

Stewart moved on to talk about another factor affecting the economy: the Bush tax cuts set to expire at the end of 2010. John Boehner says he will vote for extending tax cuts for those making $250,000 and below, even if there is no option to extend them for people making more than that, a compromise so far unheard of in the GOP. But when Press Secretary Robert GIbbs takes to Twitter to argue with Boehner over the same topic, the reasonable discussion quickly devolves into Twitter slaps, "or as the kids are saying, 'Twaps.'"
