Guess we are pimping for Lonely Planet this week.

In all my travels the only time I got caught was in Moscow. Going from Red Square to the Tretyakov Gallary - normally a decent walk but it was -30 C. Walk up to a taxi and ask how much it would be.

Official Taxi was the response, so I hop in.

Ten minutes lates get to the museum and ask how much.

2510 Rubles!!!!!

Tell him to kiss my bu.tt and reach for the door handle. Not there. Look out the window and there's a cop car behind us.

Knew I had been had and paid.

Athens, Greece is known for this.

Trips from the airport to your hotel are often the LONG way. But you don't know since you don't know the area.

From a recent BBC Television holiday program:

You arrive at your hotel, and are met outside by a smartly-dressed individual carrying a clip-board.

He welcomes you to the hotel and asks for your name, pretending to tick off your name on a list.

He then tells you to check in and he'll have your bags taken directly to your room.

You check in.

Your bags are never seen again.
