New Twitter Features: 11 Things You NEED To Know (SCREENSHOTS)

The new Twitter website has begun rolling out and all should have it in the coming weeks.

Twitter CEO Ev Williams says the revamped site offers "a faster, easier, and richer way to discover what's new in your world." Among the changes from the old site are embeddable media and an improved emphasis on search.

There's an emphasis on search with a box in the top left, and you can easily switch between timeline, mentions, retweets, searches and lists in the left panel. The right panel is all about context. On the home page, it's who you're following, who's following you, trending topics, recommended follows.

I like most of this but one small thing -- I don't like how it no longer shows the platform from which a tweet was sent (e.g. "from web" or "via tweetdeck" etc.). Not sure why, but I liked that about the old Twitter. It's interesting to see what apps people are using.

Pls design something which separates true followers from the spam. I'd rather have 50 real people then 5,000 bogus followers.

I mostly use third-party - hootsuite, twirl, etc. - to engage with Twitter, but I also consciously maintain my Twitter.com page with a professional background image and colors. Will this new layout end the use of those?

I understand nothing. All these social comms systems are forms of flatland. For social networking to move from chatter to functionality there must be hierarchy. Flatland reinforces depoliticisation of users who believe the internet has powers it does not have.

I'm very sorry I do not have the answers for you. I was just commenting on the screenshots, but when I went to my account it still looked like the old one and I didn't see a way to change it. I am guessing that they are going to install changes a little bit at a time so people can get used to them, but I could be entirely wrong about that.

Oh wait, here's what it says in the very first sentence: "The new Twitter website has begun rolling out and all should have it in the coming weeks."

I missed that entirely...guess we'll have to wait.
