Changed the game by ... mastering multiple mediums with style and flair. Let's say you are the oracle of chic, a Vanity Fair cover boy, the top designer in the world, fresh off reviving Gucci from the dead and launching your own label. You look as fabulous as your bottom line, and you’ve won a nomination for menswear designer of the year (again) without blinking an eye. What do you do next? Do you bask? Or do you direct a beautifully shot movie called "The Single Man" that garners an Oscar nod for its lead actor, and which the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation names the best wide-release movie of the year? If you're Tom Ford, the answer is obvious.

Update: Then, after all that, Tom Ford went and changed the game in fashion again. During the just-completed New York Fashion Week, Ford bucked tradition by holding a super-exclusive presentation of his Spring 2011 collection using models you might have heard of -- Beyoncé, Julianne Moore, and Lauren Hutton. He allowed only one photographer (Terry Richardson) in, and the resulting photos won't be released to the public until December--right around the time the clothes will actually be available for purchase. How novel!

He said it: “I want fashion to be fun again, like it was in the ’60s,” he told The New York Times after his Spring 2011 presentation. “You couldn’t wait to get the clothes and put them on, and I think we’ve lost that.”

Joe Bozich, hands down. Everyone else is just fluff in comparison.

In all he does, Tom Ford is one of the most affected phonies in the fashion industry, even up to and including his first feature directorial effort, A SINGLE MAN, which was a 'pretty picture', and highly stylized, but lacking in substance and as seemingly empty as he appears to be.... And, he's a VIRGO -- that about says it all....

A Single Man was a lovely film which did have substance. There is beauty in subtly.

I am a professional in the fashion industry. Tom Ford is an artist without peer in his directional fashion collections for Gucci & YSL, he put a fading symbol back into the main stream and made huge impact to their bottom line in a positive way. Everything he touches is successful. I know of no other person whose 1st film won such critical acclaim and I thought the film was brilliant, But then, what do I know, I'm a business executive in fashion, have a masters in art history, run my own jewelry design business for 30 years. Perhaps, sir, we are just in a different world than you, one whose esoteric sensibilities are key and not just in-your-face cheesy mindless communications.

and anyway, I think he's yummy.

Sorry, that was just facetious after your impassioned post. Thank you for the excellent retort.

I can't think of anything that makes Tom Ford a 'game changer', other than his branching out to direct films, which is pretty neat. But just look at the photo of him: big goggle gradient sunglasses, just like the ones most of us we wearing in the '80s - that's a game-changer?

Does wearing a dark suit jacket all the time with an open-necked dress shirt make him a game-changer? To me this is all so high-end conventional.

A game-changer is that designer who thought of the mens suits with short pants - no one wants to wear them, but at least it's something really different.

I never see Tom Ford design anything that's 'really different'. If he didn't have his 'looks' people would pay far less attention to him, I fear.

Tom most certainly was a game changer during his time at Gucci...

A conservative has posted video of the One nation Rally with actual footage of Glenn Beck's rally..on Youtube. If you google for video you'll come up with the Beck rally.  This is what we are fighting against. The conservative crowd never saw a societal norm they couldn't  find their way around. Cheating and finagling and limboing under the ethical behavior bar is in their genetic makeup. They can't help it.

Whenever I watch Whitfield, I'm struck how beautiful she is. That comes right after, I notice her intelligence and her humor. I'm glad she's on this list.

I think she is a classic beauty. Not only was her father an Olympic gold medalist he was also a Tuskegee Airman.

Nice to see there is a "fan club"! I would happily be a member.
I mostly watch CNN on weekends when Fredricka is on.
I like her style - both clothing as well as news/features presentation.

I'm surprised Tavi is not on this list; she's gotten where she is by completely being herself, and not pretending to like things because she's told to. She has a style all her own, and she has such a talent for writing that most people in any part of the writing business cannot say they have.

I gave Joe Bozich a ten. He's the real deal: a game changer. Most of these people are just pretty or are accomplished in their field, but they're not game-changers. The only other one who deserves a high mark is Paulina whats-her-name, for taking a stand against the ridiculously unhealthy, unattainable standard of beauty that film and the fashion industry would have us believe is the right way to look. Everyone else: a 1 or 2.

Michelle Obama.....She is not afraid to wear anything...She has a personal style that is outstanding....Sure, sometimes her figure is not best displayed, but she goes for it anyway....She never looks like the Talbot Mannekin...She always looks like a live wire....

Yes--she should have been listed. She is far more influential than the designers whose clothes she wears. It's nice to see a first lady dress as if she's part of the 21st century. I'd give her 8. Joe Bozich gets the only ten, though.

Can someone please tell me why Mika Brzezinski & Fredricka Whitfield are on this list. I no longer watch CNN but the times I have seen Fredricka she looked good but certainly not a game changer.

Maybe Mika is on the list because she wears the same boring style every morning. The style she wears you can find in Walmart and Kmart and sometimes Donny Dortch feels sorry for her and gives her really expensive shoes.
09:51 PM on 09/27/2010
Cause it's not enough to be smart and articulate (although the jury is still out on Mika) - you have to mince around in 4-inch heels and not lean over too far in order to bring something "new" to the TV news table. Look at the crap Rachel Maddow gets because she refuses to be bleached, blown-out, glossed, and Spanxed to death (yes, I'm talking about the Fox babes here). Smart is threatening, so you have be to be girlied up.

I agree about Brzenzinski's style, she always wears a sleeveless top, a skirt and a scarf, it's the same outfit everyday, only in a different color. She is a beautiful woman though. Fredricka Whitfield is stunning, and I always notice her clothes. She has it all brains, humor and beauty!

I agree with the Olsen twins. Say what you want about them, but they've got personal style and are trendsetters (in good and bad ways). they pretty much brought leggings back into style
