this article sounds like an ad for facebook
Practical benefits?? Like letting strangers know where you are? How is that practical.

My sister-in-law got a message from a creepy stranger, yet she still posts update after update where her family is. Some people just don't get it until something really bad happens.

Looks pretty useless to me. All security concerns aside, what possible value can a person whom I know personally gain from knowing my location? Call me on the phone if you want to know.

another point about places, is it adds yet another barrage of useless info to peoples news feeds, im glad that "fb purity" has been updated to add an option to hide facebook places along with all the other types of spam it can hide from the feed. for anyone thats curious about the script, you can get it here: http://www.fbpurity.com

Although I don't use this feature because I'm not interested in broadcasting to the world when I'm not at home, I can see some benefits. For instance, parents may get some peace of mind knowing where their children are checking in. Other then that I can't think of anything :P
